We need much more MSCA! Unlocking MSCA’s full potential with more funding As Europe navigates unprecedented challenges and exciting opportunities, the need to invest in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions is clearer than ever. MSCA nurtures talent, fosters groundbreaking research, strengthens global collaborations, and therefore has a key role in driving economic growth and securing Europe’s competitive edge in a rapidly evolving global landscape. However, the current funding is insufficient to maintain the programme’s momentum and expand its reach. We therefore urge the European Commission, Parliament and Council to recognise the MSCA's invaluable contributions by increasing its budget, while maintaining its purely bottom-up research character. The EU R&I Days are at full steam! UASNL is looking forward to activities celebrating the 40-year journey through the Research and Innovation Framework Programmes. The visibility and recognition of applied research in Brussels has increased. It's a success story! UASNL is here to collaborate with European partners and strengthen applied research and educational programmes. In doing so, it aims to create a mature position for Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences in EU policy initiatives and European collaborations. Highlights include: ·      European Regions Research & Innovation Network’s (ERRIN) Networking Reception, hearing from #ERRINmembers, the European Commission and Commission Expert Group on #FP10, ·      Meeting with the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the EU, ·      Participating in the R&I Café at Neth-ER (Netherlands house for Education and Research) and meeting with some of its officers, ·      Discussing the EU Cohesion Policy with The House of the Dutch Provinces Huis van de Nederlandse Provincies, ·      Discussing digitalization, EUIs and mutual recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications with the Benelux Union and ·      Meeting with UAS4EUROPE to discuss the role of UASs in the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. This week will give the opportunity to look together towards the future of the EU Research & Innovation. 📢 #ENEOLI Grants in Actions: Neslihan ONDER-OZDEMIR’s STSM in Ireland Is Shaping the Future of Higher Education and Neology During her Short-Term Scientific Mission (#STSM) in Ireland, Neslihan Onder-Ozdemir focused on two key goals: 1️⃣ Preparation for the 46th European Higher Education Society (EAIR) Conference, and 2️⃣ Preparation of a deliverable proposal for submission during the STSM. Collaborating with Atul Kr. Ojha from the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics at the University of Galway Neslihan worked on their joint presentation for the EAIR conference. The mission of EAIR is to advance research, policy, and practice in higher education, and Neslihan and Atul's efforts aim to contribute to this mission. 💡 Your research could also be the next milestone! Commenting on research funding in Ireland Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth said “Many Irish universities rank among the 500 best universities worldwide. This makes Ireland one of our strongest innovators in the EU, our innovation score board ranks you 16% higher than the EU average. As we look towards the future we should learn from the success, especially when we consider the challenges that still exist. SASUF, the South Africa-Sweden University Forum, is a collaborative project involving 40 partner universities from South Africa and Sweden. Launched in 2017, it aimed to strengthen ties in research, education, and innovation. The initial three-year phase (2018-2020) connected over 3000 individuals from both countries. In 2021, SASUF received additional funding, leading to a new three-year phase, SASUF 2030, starting in 2022. This phase focuses on addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030 through innovative approaches, including virtual exchange grants and student involvement. SASUF's success has resulted in over 70 collaborative projects and international recognition, serving as a model for other countries like Norway and South Africa. May 13-17 the SASUF Research and Innovation Week 2024 will be held in Sweden! Almost 100 posters are going to be presented at this event. The posters are organized according to 6 themes: 1) climate change, 2) education, 3) social transformation, 4) health, 5) sustainable urbanisation, and 6) digital technologies.
