We all want climate journalism to be healthier, more informative, and more actionable. So does Covering Climate Now. So do hundreds of journalists. And we bet you do too.⁠ ⁠ Last year, CCN, Columbia Journalism Review, The Guardian, The Nation and SJN hosted Climate Changes Everything. More than 200 working journalists attended. There, and in ensuing conversations, we sought input, collaborative discussion and feedback to inform what is now The Climate Blueprint for Media Transformation. ⁠ ⁠ To build it, we assigned articles on each issue to climate journalists and media leaders who'd participated in the conversations.⁠ The assignment for each section was simple: Take an issue within climate reporting, and based on your experience and research, give climate journalists several pieces of advice on best practices to build stronger, more impactful climate media. ⁠ Head to the all new ClimateBlueprint.org for the full slate of ideas. This is quite a wonderful contribution filled with insight and advice for journalists and others. It skirts what I consider the elephant in the room (the mis-guided assumption that carbon is the measure of all things, to the detriment of faster-acting cooling solutions produced by repairing ecosystems that regulate climate). But it includes gems like this in every section: "Unfortunately, many of the solutions being proposed for a green energy transition are set to re-create the same inequities seen in our fossil-fueled society today." #JournalistsGrants~ Journalists worldwide can apply for reporting grants. The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ)  is offering the program Boost: Reporting Grants for Journalists. The reporting grants program is designed to expand ICFJ’s offering to its global network by introducing individual reporting grants for projects that might not fit under existing programs. The first call for applications is focused on climate and climate change. ICFJ is looking for high-quality reporting that explores this topic in the Global South. Besides these good pieces of advice, also sharing additional guidance for Journalist that we developed at the Global Heat Health Information Network. 3 extra things to consider: 1) Highlight actions and solutions 2) Acknowledge the unequal impacts of heat 3) Give attention to the indirect health impacts of heat 💡And please please (please) no more pictures of happy people enjoying at a pool or at the beach to depict extreme Heat

"Access to Information is the basis of Democracy." This simple yet profound statement holds so much truth, especially in today's world. 'Misinformation and disinformation' are curses that amplify the challenges we already face. According to the World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report 2024, 'misinformation and disinformation' was ranked highest in terms of global risks over the next two years and 59% of the global population perceives fake news as a serious issue in their country. As researchers, we must continue to find the right facts and amplify them, ensuring that truth prevails over falsehoods. Our future depends on our ability to sift through the noise, empower others with accurate information, and uphold the integrity of truth. Without reliable information, democracy cannot truly exist!

Happy World Press Freedom Day 2024! As a climate leader, I extend my deepest gratitude to journalists worldwide. Your work in bringing environmental issues to the forefront is invaluable. Last July, we trained 35 young journalists in climate science and storytelling, empowering them to narrate our planet's most pressing stories. This year's theme for World Press Freedom Day is "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis." It highlights the importance of journalism and freedom of expression in the context of the current global environmental challenges Today, I urge you all to continue this momentum. Let's increase our coverage on climate change, share more stories of impact, and inspire action.
