🎉Celebrating Innovation: 40 years of Elmos’ vision – Ongoing improvement of wafer production This year we celebrate our 40th anniversary at #Elmos, and we would like to use this occasion to take you on a journey through 4 decades of innovations, memories and events, full of change and continuous improvement. It has been 40 years of growth, from a small startup to the company we are today. 📅 1995-1998: Conversion from 4-inch to 6-inch wafers Production at Elmos has already been expanded twice in recent years. Now a third expansion is imminent. At the same time, the first large and important improvement for wafer production is being taken: the changeover from 4-inch to 6-inch wafers in order to be able to manufacture series products more cost-efficiently and to meet the increasing demand for Elmos products. A major challenge is the changeover during ongoing production. #GaN #Semiconductor #galliumnitride BelGaN, the GaN spinout from onsemi in Belgium, recently filed for bankruptcy, marking a significant shift in the company’s trajectory. Founded in Oudenaarde in 2022, BelGaN emerged as a GaN foundry after onsemi failed to find a buyer for its CMOS power fab. The company made headlines by launching the innovative 650V enhanced eGaN technology in June 2023, establishing itself as a prominent player in the automotive power chip foundry industry. Additionally, BelGaN had ambitious plans to manufacture depletion mode GaN devices, underlining its dedication to advanced technology. BelGaN faced substantial financial challenges, as highlighted in a company statement: "To fund the significant investments required for the transition process, the company actively sought additional investments beyond the initial support from its shareholders." These financial difficulties ultimately led to the bankruptcy filing. The Belgian wafer fab, once automotive qualified and employing 440 staff members, now faces an uncertain future. Management has expressed a willingness to collaborate with potential investors to explore opportunities for revitalizing the site and possibly resuming operations. BelGaN was established on September 30, 2021, as a joint venture between Rockley Management (HK) Ltd. and Wuxi Group Ltd., both based in Hong Kong. Rockley Group, a venture capital and advisory firm with roots in Oxford, England, and Shanghai, China, played a crucial role in founding BelGaN. The acquisition of the fab and its intellectual property cost $13.6 million, with Belgian chip companies Melexis and X-Fab initially considered as potential buyers of the facility.

Nano Dimension’s Q124 results confirmed that the Reshaping Nano initiative has made good progress, with significant reductions in operating costs and improved adjusted gross margins materially reducing the adjusted EBITDA loss and cash burn compared to Q123. The company bought back $52m worth of shares in Q124 and expects to continue to do so while the shares trade at a discount to book value. 🚀 Launch of the #nexAMo Project: Pioneering #Decentralized Matrix Production for #NextGen #Mobility We at Fraunhofer IAPT are excited to be part of the #nexAMo project, spearheaded by ZF Group. This #innovative project aims to develop a #decentralized, highly flexible, and #resource–efficient matrix production system for #next–generation #mobility products. Our supporting role focuses on leveraging our expertise in #additiveManufacturing to enhance this groundbreaking production method. We are actively participating with the following activities: 🔧 Concept development of matrix production 🏭 Process development for AM procedures 🤖 Automated design development for post-processing compatibility 🔄 Automated post-processing ✅ Efficient quality assurance 🌿 Supported by the "Kopa35c A2 - Digitalization of Vehicle Manufacturers and Suppliers" initiative from the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (BMWK), and managed by the VDI e.V., which coordinates the distribution and control of the funding on behalf of BMWK. With contributions from all project partners, #nexAMo has secured a total budget of 16 million euros. This funding is allocated towards the #development and #construction of the #innovative matrix production system. 🤝 The project was officially inaugurated on February 13, 2024, with a kickoff meeting at the ZF Group site in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
