16 Days of activism campaign Sexual violence has a profound and multifaceted impact on the sexual and reproductive health of women and girls. Here are some of the main consequences: 1. Contraction of STDs and STIs: High risk of infections such as HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia due to the lack of protection. 2.Obstetric complications: Increased risk of preterm delivery and other pregnancy-related issues. 3. Gynecological problems: Including chronic pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, and complications in the reproductive system. 4. Unintended pregnancy: Vaused by sexual violence and lack of access to emergency contraceptives. 5. Unsafe abortions: Women who become pregnant as a result of sexual violence may resort to risky methods to terminate the pregnancy. Sexual violence has devastating impacts on the health of women and girls. Say no to violence. #Reproductivehealth #Sexualviolence #STDs #STIs #unintendedpregnancy #unsafeabortions #gynecologicalproblems #obstetriccomplications #womensrights #sexualhealth #Gacinmozambique #swedeninmz #MISAU #Ipasmoçambique High Commission of Canada in Mozambique | Haut-commissariat du Canada au Mozambique The Erik E. and Edith H. Youth in Kilosa DC Demand Action on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Issues! 🚨 Young people in Kilosa District are raising their voices, urging local decision-makers to address the lack of accurate SRHR information. They highlighted how misinformation has led to serious issues like early pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and rising cases of STIs, HIV, and GBV. In a powerful presentation, youth advocate Godfrey Sagui emphasized: “If adolescents and young people had access to accurate SRHR information and youth-friendly services, many of these challenges could be drastically reduced or eliminated.” The good news? Decision-makers are listening! They've committed to improving services by training healthcare providers and increasing the Youth-Friendly Services (YFS) budget in 2025/2026. 👏 #SRHR4ALL

it's okay for prioritizing sexual health by providing free condoms in bars. Since condoms are widely available to prevent pregnancy, STIs and HIV/AIDs. menstrual products like pads, tampons and flow cups are often not readily accessible or affordable for many menstruating individuals, particularly in educational settings. This disparity raises questions about societal values and priorities. It suggests that preventing pregnancy and STIs is considered more important than addressing the basic needs of individuals who menstruate. Moreover, it perpetuates the stigma surrounding menstruation, implying that it's not a natural or important aspect of human health. Providing free condoms in bars is a step towards promoting sexual health, but it's equally crucial to ensure access to menstrual products in schools and other public spaces. This includes; 1. Free or low-cost menstrual products in schools, public restrooms, and community centers. 2. Inclusive sex education that covers menstrual health and hygiene. 3. Breaking down stigmas and taboos surrounding menstruation. 4. Recognizing the economic and social impacts of menstrual poverty. #MenstrualJusticeForAll #EndPeriodPoverty Cc Irise Institute East Africa CEHURD Uganda Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Alliance Uganda

Day 7: December 1 – GBV and Health Theme: Sexual and Reproductive Health Today, as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we focus on the critical link between GBV and sexual and reproductive health. Survivors of gender-based violence often face devastating health consequences, including HIV, STIs, unwanted pregnancies, and mental health issues. Addressing these challenges requires a holistic approach that combines healthcare, education, and advocacy. Why This Matters: Gender-based violence (GBV) significantly impacts individuals' health and well-being. Survivors often experience barriers to accessing healthcare due to stigma, fear, or lack of resources. It's essential to create safe spaces where survivors can receive the care they need without judgment. What We’re Doing Today: Health Screenings and HIV Testing: Offering accessible and confidential services to help individuals take charge of their health. Awareness Sessions: Educating communities on the links between GBV and reproductive health, addressing misconceptions, and reducing stigma around survivors seeking care. Advocating for Survivors’ Rights: Calling for policies that integrate GBV response into healthcare systems, ensuring survivors receive comprehensive support, including mental health care and legal aid. At Donya Justice Network Kenya, we believe that ending GBV starts with empowering survivors and breaking the silence around reproductive health challenges. Together, we can create a world where everyone has access to safe, stigma-free healthcare and where survivors' rights and dignity are upheld. Join us in raising awareness and supporting this vital cause. #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #SexualHealth #ReproductiveHealth #HIVAwareness #BreakTheCycle #EmpowerSurvivors #DonyaJusticeNetworkKenya #HealthForAll #GenderEquality #ProtectAndRespect #TogetherForChange #intersexkenyaeducationandsdvocacy UNAIDS World Health Organization Amnesty International CREAWKenya Giving Light To Societies Foundation Donya Justice Network Kenya

Today, our Global Policy Director, Irum Taqi, addressed the UN Commission on Population and Development to call attention to the need for a comprehensive approach to sexual and reproductive health and rights, as articulated by the Guttmacher-Lancet Commission, in accelerating progress toward the vision laid out by #ICPD thirty years ago in Cairo. Since the 1994 Cairo conference, we have seen remarkable gains on #SRHR globally, including on contraception, maternal and newborn health, and HIV/AIDS. Yet progress remains uneven within and across countries. We must also commit to fully tackling neglected issues, including adolescent sexuality, gender-based violence, abortion, infertility and other critical components of SRHR.
