Wrightbus will utilise Cummins Inc. in our StreetDeck #Ultroliner diesel double-decker for the first time, in our next-generation variant of that model which will be an Ultra-Low Emission Bus accredited by Zemo Partnership We are thrilled that the first of these buses are to be supplied to Isle of Man operator #BusVannin who have ordered 5 StreetDeck Ultroliners This latest Cummins engine platform opens the latest-generation StreetDeck Ultroliner to potential mid-life repower to zero-emission - such as switching the diesel engine for a Cummins hydrogen internal combustion engine, or to a battery electric powertrain through our NewPower UK business. Bus Vannin Director Ian Bates describes this order as “a progressive step forward in a known technology, the internal combustion engine, while continuing to take into account the Isle of Man Government’s Island Plan and commitments to climate change” and a controlled approach allowing the operator “to see how the network will look in the future, enabling an insight into possible hydrogen options alongside electrification.” Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales highlighted the importance of our “blended approach of responsible technologies; battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and the cleanest diesel to ensure all our customers can continue to decarbonise as quickly as possible, while still maintaining financially viable operations…. The worlds first electric hydrofoil ferry is now operational between Ekerö and Stockholm City Hall! Super interesting to see this new and fresh take on public transport. The Candela P12 is designed specifically for public transport and have a capacity of 30 passengers. There is a lot to uncover here, but some of main benefits are - Electric = Silent and clean - Foil = Efficient and stable - No wake = Potential speed limit exemption, resulting in faster travel - Uses car charging infrastructure (no MW charger needed) = Low capex - Designed for single-person crew = Low opex And much, much more. Now comes the challenging part: convincing public procurement to take a chance on this innovative approach to water mobility. https://lnkd.in/ejG8fDAX Interesting to finally see the technical report that Ricardo’s vehicle emissions team has been supporting the research on for the past 5 years on behalf of Defra and Transport Scotland. Whilst the conclusions about SCR retrofitted bus fleet performance isn’t what we’d hope for as air quality practitioners, the findings re-emphasise the need to follow the evidence and demonstrate how important it is to validate the ongoing performance of any air quality mitigation measure. Credit must go to Transport Scotland and the Energy Saving Trust for contracting Ricardo plc to undertake the first remote sensing studies of bus retrofit emissions performance in 2019, and for following the evidence which has led to this report. Congratulations also to the Ricardo team who have led the remote sensing field studies, data analyses and interpretation that have informed the development of this report and associated conclusions with our technology partner Opus Remote Sensing.
