The vital sectors in Yemen have been crippled as a result of shortages in supplies and necessary equipment, the interruption of employee salaries, and the parties' perpetration of numerous violations and obstructive behaviors. Additionally, a large portion of the critical infrastructure in vital sectors has been subjected to total or partial destruction due to being targeted by the warring parties in various ways. #Legacy_of_Gunpowder #Human_Rights_Situation_Report on Yemen in 2023 To read the press release of the "Legacy of Gunpowder" report:https://bit.ly/3zVK2l2 To download and read the "Legacy of Gunpowder" report: https://bit.ly/3yb4g9V

💔 On June 8, the Rapid Support Force (RSF) stormed El Fasher, looting large parts of the city, destroying hospitals, schools, mosques, and civilians' homes, which forced more than 70,000 people to flee. More than 250 people were also killed as a result of the RSF shelling. With the rainy season at its peak, thousands of El Fasher residents were left under siege, unable to access food or shelter, and exposed to daily violence and atrocities. In the recommendation below, we call for the immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan ⬇️ NOTE: This recommendation is extracted from a recently issued press release by the SIHA Network, that sheds light on the alarming security conditions prevailing in North Darfur State, with a particular focus on El Fasher. Breaking news: UN security council resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution, put forward by the 10 non-permanent members of the Security Council, demands an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan, the immediate and unconditional release of hostages and “the urgent need to expand the flow” of aid into Gaza. Most of us have seen the pictures of children starving, and there are a lot of people caring about hostages, so hopefully the resolution is immediately implemented by all sides to stop the suffering and allow for a transitioning into a post-war environment respecting israeli security concerns while allowing people in Gaza and the Westbank a self-determined life. https://lnkd.in/eWVN4S4T

THIS. Extremely important to visualize this sobbering pattern and take concrete measures to address it. As “localization” regains the center stage as a concept, may we not forget that a) the vast majority of humanitarian aid has always been, is, and will always be mounted by the local population. They are the 1st responders. They are the ones who undertake the brunt of direct response and emergency service delivery; and the ones systematically bearing the highest risk. b) we (intl orgs, donors, others) should be less concerned with reaching out to local actors to support our (even well intentioned) efforts/plans/etc and shift our focus rather to ask how can we get better support THEM? How do we better protect THEM? There is a massive difference between interventions that seek to include local actors (as if by favor); and those that explicitly support locally led action. May be continue to consciously move towards the later. 🤍 #risktransfer #humanitarianwork #humanitarianrelief #protectionofhumanitarianworkers #community #dutyofcare
All the aid workers killed in Gaza are local staff – reflecting the sector’s continuing inability to extend the protection enjoyed by international staff to its frontline workforce. Here are the global figures: https://buff.ly/4csbTbp

#Sudan 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 - 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 Since the outbreak of conflict between the SAF and the paramilitary RSF on 15 April 2023, ACLED records over 6,760 incidents of political violence and more than 18,760 reported fatalities in Sudan. From 1 June to 5 July 2024, ACLED records over 400 incidents of political violence and more than 1,280 fatalities. Khartoum and North Darfur states saw the highest levels of violence during this period, with 150 and 99 incidents resulting in 246 and 508 reported fatalities, respectively. Battles accounted for the majority of events, with 165 recorded, followed by explosions/remote violence at 143 events. Compared to the previous five weeks, #ACLED data show a 20% increase in battles, largely driven by conflicts in Khartoum and North Darfur. We are witnessing an appalling rise in attacks on humanitarian workers and civilians across conflict zones - like DRC, Gaza, Myanmar, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, and Yemen, to name just a few. We cannot allow this dangerous new normal to take hold, where those dedicated to saving lives are being targeted and innocent civilians are increasingly caught in the crossfire. This demands our strongest condemnation and - let me emphasize - unyielding resistance. One issue that I am particularly alarmed by is the escalating attacks on health workers and facilities. Despite the Security Council adopting a resolution in 2016 to protect them, Member States have largely failed to enforce it. On #WorldHumanitarianDay, I urge all Member States to confront the devastating consequences of inaction. It is imperative that meaningful steps are taken to uphold the laws designed to protect humanity and end the impunity for violations of International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law. Protecting those on the front lines and the civilians caught in conflict is an absolute necessity that requires immediate and decisive action. #ActForHumanity

There is nowhere left to go in Gaza. Rafah was one of the few spots left where humanitarian access was possible, and there was still obstruction at the border. Over one million Palestinians are there and they are being told to "evacuate" without clear instructions while facing indiscriminate bombing; they cannot leave through the border which is shut deliberately. If they move, they face death by starvation or dehydration since the water plants have been bombed too. An invasion of Rafah will have catastrophic consequences for civilians. This is unacceptable and is a moral stain on the international community's conscience for their failure to prevent such war crimes, human rights violations, and atrocities. Over 35,000 Palestinians are dead, thousands more are missing under the rubble, and 14,000 children have died. 70,000 are injured, including many amputees. Nearly 2 million people out of a population of 2.3 million have been internally displaced. Both the Israeli government and Hamas must face accountability for their war crimes and human rights violations--that said, there is no solution to this crisis that will arrive through a military campaign alone, and one that indiscriminately targets civilians and civilian infrastructure, making Gaza completely unliveable. There is no excuse for blocking humanitarian aid access while thousands starve to death in the north. There is no justification for any civilians facing violence, insecurity, and a loss of their human rights.
🚨URGENT | ActionAid reacts to the news of the Israeli Forces’ evacuation order for 1.5 million displaced people in #Rafah "Forcing over a million displaced Palestinians from Rafah to evacuate without a safe destination is not only unlawful but would lead to catastrophic consequences. Our aid workers are reporting some of the most severe conditions in recent memory with widespread disease, starvation and chaos. Let us be clear, there are no safe zones in Gaza. The international community must act swiftly to prevent further atrocities and hold themselves as well as the Israeli government to account - if an invasion of Rafah is your “red line” will you do everything possible to stop this imminent attack?” https://lnkd.in/dXdSgBQn
