This election, like many before it, feels like a sea change. But in truth, it is neither an end nor a beginning. It is simply a step on the long road towards tomorrow – a journey we must travel together. The deep divisions in our society, laid bare by this election, underscore the challenges ahead. It would be easy to succumb to discouragement, to retreat in the face of uncertainty and conflict. But at SFF, we choose to forge ahead with renewed determination. We choose to double down on our commitment to social justice and racial equity, to embrace a vision of a Bay Area – and a nation – where everyone, regardless of background or identity, can thrive. To achieve this vision, we must actively build our collective power – a power fueled by love. Today, we call for a courageous love, a love that fuels our fight for justice and empowers us to dismantle the systems that stand against it. Let’s work together to create a society where everyone can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential. Read full message from CEO Fred Blackwell: https://ow.ly/omWn50U3sJa #LoveAndResolve

After years of working in political communications at both the provincial and federal levels, I’ve come to realize that a true passion lies in municipal politics. While my first love was federal politics—largely because I’m a big-picture thinker who likes to look at issues from a holistic, overarching perspective—I’ve discovered that when it comes to getting things done in a practical, hands-on way, municipal politics is where real impact happens. Unlike federal decisions, which can take time to trickle down and be felt in our day-to-day lives, municipal politics touches people directly in their communities. It’s the decisions made at this level that determine the quality of local services, infrastructure, and public spaces—the very things we interact with every day. Whether it’s improving a park, addressing economic development needs, or fixing a local road, municipal politics offers tangible, immediate results that make a difference. It’s exciting to be part of something that affects real change in people’s daily lives. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the impact of a decision take shape right in the heart of a community. This evening I have the privilege of chairing a community roundtable for Annapolis Royal’s business community to help energize the autumn and winter season! #MunicipalPolitics #CommunityImpact #PoliticalCommunications #LocalGovernment #MakingADifference #PublicService

New York is a big reason Democrats lost the House in 2022. And it’s going to be a big reason we win it back in 2024. At the Democracy Alliance, Battleground New York is just one example of our belief that we have to throw out the old thinking about red and blue states. Winning for the long-term means staying laser focused on year-round investment in infrastructure in blue states. And it means going on offense in (so-called) red states, where some of our most effective organizers are poised to change the game. The key to it all is building power. We’re supporting the most brilliant labor and community coalition with deep ties to our communities–who know voters best. Winning in November is essential—and not enough. We have to build a durable, pro-democracy majority for a generation ahead. Read the latest from CNN: https://lnkd.in/ebe_gy5w Learn more about Battleground New York: https://lnkd.in/eHm_Eywp

Thanks Jarrett! Note my comment that transit advocates need to create a better business case for increasing public transit funding. What do you think? Do we need better tools for analyzing the full benefits of high quality transit and transit oriented development?

Chicago Transit Authority faces a painful tradeoff between ridership goals and racial equity goals. The only way to do both is to have more funding. Here's how I explained this to the Chicago Transit Board this morning: https://lnkd.in/gQRUX5jD

Coastal cities across New York are facing major sea-level rising – New York City sea levels could rise by more than a foot in the next 10 years. But our communities are already feeling the effects of climate chaos. Increasing storms, fewer snow days, and unbreathable air are not part of some dystopian future – they’re happening right now. On top of a statewide housing crisis and our state government's failure to shelter migrant newcomers, we must take action now – and we have the solutions that will transform New York’s future. Join us tomorrow, February 29th at 4:30 PM ET for the People’s Briefing on #LivableNY, a bill that will take on the housing and climate crises while creating good union jobs for all New Yorkers, no matter their immigration status or conviction record. RSVP to learn more about this landmark bill and how we’re going to transform our state together. https://lnkd.in/drdMD5sD
