🌿 September is Wills Month in Aotearoa – Protect What Matters Most 🌿 Wills Month is a crucial reminder of the importance of having a will and keeping it up to date. It’s not just about money and assets; it’s about safeguarding the values, traditions, and treasures that mean the most to you. 📜 Creating a will ensures that your wishes are clearly communicated, protecting your loved ones from unnecessary stress and uncertainty. It guarantees that your assets and cherished belongings go to the people you choose, not left to the courts. ⏳ Creating a will doesn’t take long, but it provides a lifetime of comfort and security for those you care about. Nearly half of New Zealanders over 18 already have a will in place – are you one of them? If not, there’s no better time to get started. Protect your legacy, care for your whānau, and ensure your wishes are honoured. Get your will sorted today. #WillsMonth #LegacyMatters #Aotearoa #ProtectWhatMatters

Exploring the nuances of global development terminologies Hi Neil, I read some distinctions in the usage and connotations concerning regions of the world considered less economically developed or politically influential. ‘Majority World’ underscores the numerical significance of these regions, striving to redirect the narrative toward a more inclusive representation of global diversity. In contrast, ‘Global South’ emphasizes a geographic perspective, highlighting the shared experiences of countries in these regions and their historical ties to colonialism and imperialism. Notably, the population of women and girls in these two areas is considered higher! Nonetheless, both terms aim to challenge prevailing narratives and foster a more comprehensive understanding of global diversity and inequality. ‘Global South’ tends to be favoured, given its established recognition within academic, policy, and advocacy circles focused on global development and inequality. However, as a gender expert and writer, I note that in the Wiley Online Library- ‘Global South’ is mentioned 831,257 times and ‘Majority World’ 3,220,288 times. Based on this data- I embrace ‘Majority World’ in my academic writings.
Recently we were introduced to the term Majority World while reading the message from the chair of our board in the 2023 Annual Report. The term refers to parts of the world traditionally considered “developing,” and highlights the fact that these countries comprise the majority of the global population. The Land Portal team had a lively discussion about whether we need to adopt this expression and phase out “Global South.” We would like to hear from our users, 70% of which come from the countries referred to in these terms. Which term resonates with you, and which do you want to see the Land Portal using? https://lnkd.in/eS-XT2AB

In the spirit of reconciliation, Freyssinet Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea, air and community. We pay respect to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today. Last week was an important week for the First Nations community. It was also a momentus week for Freyssinet Australia because we launched our first Reconciliation Action Plan. By developing and launching the RAP, we wish to acknowledge the difficult history experienced by the First Nations community and state our commitment to be more proactive in our efforts to be part of the reconciliation process. We will do this by developing closer partnership and engagement with indigenous representatives across various functions of our business activities. We are sincere in wanting to have a positive influence and leave a strong legacy in the local regions where our project sites operate. This Reconciliation Action Plan represents a tangible commitment to: ◾ Show respect by listening and learning from First Nations communities and representatives about their culture, perspective, and aspirations within Australian society. ◾ Take steps to become a preferred employer of First Nations representatives. ◾ Enable First Nations individuals and businesses to fully integrate and participate economically, socially, and psychologically into our company and our modern Australian society. #Reconciliation #Respect #Indigenous #FreyssinetAustralia #Community #ReconciliationActionPlan #TogetherWeGrow

#ThursdayLandVibes #Landrights Land tenure rights encompass various entitlements, including the right to occupy, use, access, control, and transfer land. While some rights are formally recognized, others are informally acknowledged hence not documented. These rights can coexist or be held by different individuals or groups for the same land parcel, forming what is known in the land sector as a #bundleofrights. Land investment companies should identify, prioritize and uphold land rights when embarking on investment ventures. One way of identifying the various rights is reviewing land records in land registries. However, some land rights such as women land rights (gathering firewood, growing vegetables etc) may not be easily visible hence it's important to engage the community in the land rights mapping exercise so as to capture all the land rights on the land, both formal and informal. Recognizing and respecting of land rights is key in ensuring land investment companies mitigate risks, uphold ethical practices, and nurture positive relationships with communities and other stakeholders.Isaac Matumbwe Fredrick WAREGA MERCY TOWET (MKIP) #LandRights #ResposnibleLandInvestment #CommunityEngagement

A family from the Stavropol Territory built a greenhouse for growing tulips and other flowers Thanks to a new type of government support called the “social contract”, Stavropol residents are successfully developing their own business. So, the Ionin family from the Novoselitsky municipal district sent the funds received from the budget for the construction of their own greenhouse. There are about five thousand tulips growing here. When the flowers are […] https://lnkd.in/eW-RN4Za

Less than 12 hours remain until the sun rises into the 49th year of Independence for our beloved motherland, Papua New Guinea. 🇵🇬 Two years ago, I wrote this message, and I feel it still resonates deeply today: "Happy 49th Independence Day to my home country, Papua New Guinea. 🇵🇬" As I prepare to celebrate this day from another land, I reflect on what we once were, what we are now, and what we can become when we stand united. A nation that bleeds patriotism every year on the 16th of September—so diverse, yet united. My vision for PNG is this: a nation where our culture is one of building, fostering growth, empowering women, thriving in agriculture, enjoying a consistent and reliable supply of electricity, and having a transparent electoral system. I envision a country with strong governance that holds everyone accountable, where law and order prevail, and crime is reduced. A PNG where our health system is well-funded and fully equipped with the medical services, products, and facilities our people need—so that no one has to raise 100K to seek care overseas. Where roads reach even the remotest areas, education is free for all children, and clean, safe water is accessible. Where job security is a reality for young people who leave the education system, and where all children have access to healthy, nutritious diets. I dream of a nation where maternal and neonatal deaths are reduced, alternative market opportunities empower both men and women, and gender-based violence is no longer tolerated—where perpetrators face the full force of the law, backed by political will and community support. We are progressing, but much work remains. That is my prayer for PNG. Is it ambitious? Yes. But it is not impossible. We can only achieve this, if we stand united. God bless Papua New Guinea, the land of a thousand tribes. 🇵🇬❤️
