How does the Grant Facility fit within the larger migration and mobility governance frameworks existing within Africa and between Africa and the EU? 🌍 Since the 2000s, the #EU and #Africa have been engaging in an extensive and comprehensive #dialogue on migration and mobility, making it a fundamental pillar of their longstanding #partnership. ✅ At the 6th EU-AU Summit in February 2022, the EU and the AU reaffirmed their commitment to improving governance, management and cooperation on #migration and #mobility, both within Africa and between Africa and the EU as part of their Joint Vision for 2030. 🤝 To sustain a stronger and mutually beneficial partnership, it is crucial to establish and foster dialogue with different actors that promote a comprehensive understanding of migration issues. These include regional government institutions, local authorities, #cities and #municipalities as well as non-governmental actors, such as #CSOs, #diaspora organizations, migrant associations, community groups, and #academia as put forward by the AU Migration Policy Framework for Africa and Plan of Action (2018 – 2030). ⬇ Here's a closer look at the key milestones of the EU-Africa partnership on migration and mobility at both the regional and continental levels! #Migration #Mobility #CivilSociety #Africa #EU #Partnership #Cooperation #MMD #Grants #CallForProposals International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) European Commission AfricanUnion Rabat Process Khartoum Process

👉On June 16, the International Day of Family #Remittances is celebrated worldwide, as established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018. 🔹IOM Montenegro honors all migrant workers for their commitment to supporting their families and Montenegrin society at large through remittances. Remittances are a vital connection between migration and development, benefiting countries of origin, destination, and the migrants themselves. Maximizing their potential is crucial. 🔹Having in mind Montenegrin migrants working abroad, IOM Montenegro Chief of Mission, #Vladimir #Gjorgjiev emphasizes the importance of an inclusive approach to build capacity around remittances and utilize potential human capital that migrants can bring, which is essential to harness future development opportunities and positively contribute to building better society. 🔹IOM Montenegro is implementing project funded by IOM Development Fund "Diaspora Engagement for Sustainable Development of Montenegro - phase II", which is a significant way forward for creating future actions to bring successful global practices in remittance flows to Montenegro. 👉Currently, through a twofold approach the project is providing support to the Government of Montenegro in setting the strategic framework for future #diaspora #engagement and implementing direct activities to enhance collaboration with expatriates. 🔹IOM Montenegro remains dedicated to contributing with these initiatives to Sustainable Development Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth. #familyremittances #IOM #migration #SDG8 #Development #Diaspora

UNHCR’s Executive Committee adopted today a conclusion on international protection, focusing on durable solutions and complementary pathways. Among the 116 conclusions that had previously been adopted by the Executive Committee, numerous addressed durable solutions specifically, and some were dedicated to specific solutions, including voluntary repatriation, resettlement and local integration. Until now, there had been no conclusion that addressed complementary pathways as a primary focus or in a detailed way. Only two conclusions, no. 112(LXVII) of 2016 on international cooperation from a protection and solutions perspective and no. 114 (LXVIII) of 2017 on machine-readable travel documents, briefly referred to the concept. In choosing to focus on this topic, #ExCom recognized the value of a conclusion that would see complementary pathways as an enabler of solutions for refugees and that would attempt to address current realities and capitalize on opportunities around durable solutions. When you think about it, it’s remarkable that 110 member States from different corners of the world could come together and agree by consensus on such a text. The negotiations were not always easy, but the wellbeing of #refugees was always at the forefront of the discussions. I’m proud to have been able to support our wonderful Rapporteur from Uganda, together with my brilliant colleagues from UNHCR’s Division of International Protection, in this process. Why are conclusions on international protection important? 💡The conclusions demonstrate the support of member States for UNHCR’s work and strengthen the Office’s ability to effectively perform its role. 💡In conformity with international law and adopted by consensus, past conclusions have addressed questions of principle, policy and practice relevant to forcibly displaced people in many different contexts in which UNHCR works. 💡They provide guidance to member States and to #UNHCR on contemporary operational challenges. 💡They have a standard-setting role and serve as an indication of State practice in key areas. Look out for next year’s climate-related theme. 🌍 Strengthening Cooperation with IOM in Uzbekistan 🌍 Today, the leadership of the Migration Agency of Uzbekistan had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Jerimy Gray, the newly appointed Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Uzbekistan. The meeting provided an opportunity to share insights into the recent reforms in our country's migration sector, including the activities of the Migration Agency established under the Presidential Decree. Discussions highlighted the measures undertaken to ensure the rights of our citizens temporarily working abroad and to organize their migration processes in a safe and systematic manner. Particular emphasis was placed on the expanded labor migration geography in recent years, which now includes more advanced economies, creating better opportunities for Uzbek workers. Andrew Jerimy Gray expressed his strong support for forming a joint working group between IOM and the Migration Agency, marking a promising step toward enhancing collaboration. #Terugkeersamenwerking - This week, DTenV was hosted by the African Capacity Building Centre (ACBC) of the International Organization for Migration (IOM - UN Migration) in the United Republic of Tanzania to lead a two-day workshop in capacity building on migration management. In addition to DTenV and IOM, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND), UNU-MERIT (Maastricht University) and Frontex were participating. The workshop is funded through the European Commission's Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). Nicole Engering explained why DTenV organized this workshop: “As the Repatriation and Departure Service, we depend on a good working relationship with the authorities responsible for migration management. Building a good relationship means getting to know each other, understanding each other's roles and challenges, and constantly looking for common goals and opportunities to work together. That is why it is an integral part of our strategy to contribute to the quality of migration management around the world.” The purpose of the meeting is to improve coordination of the numerous capacity building activities on migration from the different partners. As the IOM’s Chief of Mission in Tanzania Maurizio Busatti stated at the opening: “It is my hope that over the coming two days we are able to identify opportunities to collaborate in a way that reduces duplication of efforts, fill gaps, either thematically or in terms of skills development, and helps us to move in a direction of knitting together the various capacity building institutions and actors in a way that deepens our collective impact and contributes to the sustainable development of migration management capacities across Africa.” #DienstTerugKeerenVertrek #DTenV #terugkeer #migratie #Tanzania
