We had some insightful shares at today’s PIT Briefing from the dedicated individuals who run the systems that keep us safe and assist us in times of extreme danger. A big thank you to Laura Poidevin (CDO, QPS) and Garth W. (CIO, QFES) Here are some recurring themes and insights: • Services continue to struggle with the transition from manual to digital forms. • Analytics and data control remain critical components of their roadmaps. • Aligning roadmaps toward key horizons and ensuring procurement aligns with their vision, mission, and principles. Garth is well on this journey, while Laura is still deep in the discovery phase. • Balancing progress with high-velocity operations and risk management. • From the Q&A: There’s a budget to experiment with emerging technologies in Queensland, but no clear pathway to do so. Lastly, during this NAIDOC Week, Chris McLaren (QGOV, CDO) shared a powerful message about “Real digital jobs on country.” As an industry, we need to focus on how we engage. For us, this means our annual UQ First Nation Scholarship, and in September, we’ll be welcoming InspireU’s cohort into our office. For more information, check them out here: InspireU at UQ.

The Centre for Sustainable Business - University of Liverpool Management School's expert on all things social value, Clare Westcott, has been working with the Institute for Social Value to share and discuss the insights from her PhD research, which focuses on suppliers' experiences in navigating social value requirements in public procurement tenders and contracts. Well done Clare! University of Liverpool Management School | University of Liverpool Management School - Research
It has been a busy few days with the Institute for Social Value 😊. Last week I had the pleasure of attending and contributing to the discussions at the annual conference. Our panel explored how to align expectations within the public procurement space. Expertly chaired by Liam Ronan-Chlond and joined by Kate Gräfe and Sage Bannister. Yesterday was the last meeting of the year for the Institute's special interest group for education led by Jan Brown. I presented my thoughts on whether an academic and practitioner divide exists when it comes to social value. We left that conversation with many thoughts on where the group would like to direct their influence next year. There feels like a real momentum with the membership at present, and I look forward to seeing what next year brings.
