Today, Smart City Expo World Congress arrives in #Barcelona. Thanks to Metropolis, Asociación Mundial de las Grandes Metrópolis to give us the chance to explain how from Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) we think of urbanization and digitalization as two interconnected shifts. Technology is not a neutral issue so we should ask first for whom we are building cities to. And what kind of cities we want for the future. I have been following best practices for events and I was impressed to see SaaStr highlighted in the recent great write-up by Julius Solaris. His newsletter always gives great ideas and shows trends in the event industry. Suggest you give it a look. He spotlighted SaaStr and other festival style events where they use a "High street floor plan" to put all stages, sessions, and areas of the event with traffic directly around the Expo section. I do love SaaStr and enjoy attending every year. But I disagree with the festival style layout for exhibitors. At the GDC event this year, the Exhibitors all had an underground expo floor and each touchpoint from Check In, to large welcome signs, to the session scan in process, all reminded attendees about the Expo portion and where to go find it. (also they had these great Maps and reminded all about their Mobile Event App created by Swapcard) Both can work, but in my head separate is better for: - different energy levels in both areas - ability to Sponsor the in-between area or passage way - more intentionality and focus - when someone is walking the expo floor, they are on it for a reason What are you seeing at events you run or have attended?
