To navigate the overwhelming number of sustainability initiatives available, prioritisation is key to HEIs’ success in sustainability. Universities and other HE institutions should consider the complexity and impact of each initiative when prioritising, focusing on both simple and complex high-impact initiatives while only pursuing low-impact initiatives if they are simple to implement. During DEC Executive Briefing 009, “Measuring Sustainability in Higher Education”, we explored how institutions can make a lasting impact by focusing on four key areas: education, research and innovation, governance and operations, and external leadership.
