Today, September 13, marks World Sepsis Day. In Europe alone, more than one person dies from sepsis every minute. Of the 2.8 million survivors, 75% are left with long term health effects.¹ Antibiotics are crucial for preventing and treating sepsis, yet their effectiveness is threatened by antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Recently, Dr Ron Daniels, joint CEO of the UK Sepsis Trust, discussed with Shionogi the role of the medical community in driving policy change around AMR – click here to read more about the discussion: https://lnkd.in/eZmv4aBE We urge experts in the clinical community to use their influence at this critical moment in the fight against AMR and sepsis. #WorldSepsisDay #AMR Ref 1: European Sepsis Report — European Sepsis Alliance: https://lnkd.in/eWhBvh_k

Until now, most research about acute hepatic porphyrias (AHP, includes AIP, HCP and VP) has focused on symptoms and care during an acute attack. In the latest Summing UP, we take a closer look at the POWER study which explored the full burden of AHP on patients from around the world. Read more: https://lnkd.in/em-7UFYd

Did you know, sepsis is the most common, least-recognized, most preventable cause of death worldwide? A medical emergency caused when the body’s response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs, sepsis claims a life every 2.8 seconds. This World Sepsis Day, we celebrate two tireless scientists–and Angels Den finalists–who may be on the cusp of reversing its deadly toll. St. Michael's Hospital's critical care clinician-scientist Dr. Claudia DosSantos and postdoctoral fellow Dr. Amin Ektesabi. PhD have developed a new treatment to block inflammation, supercharge the white blood cells’ ability to kill bacteria, and protect against heart and lung failure. Now they want to test it in pre-clinical trials–so they can move quickly to save lives. #WorldSepsisDay #SepsisPrevention #AngelsDen #Research #Healthcare #Sepsis Unity Health Toronto

It’s sepsis awareness month! Throughout my over 20 year nursing career care has evolved from the ER to the ICU. Despite so many advances, we still haven’t slayed the sepsis dragon. 🐉 One thing that has not changed is a top concern for providers caring for septic patients…”is my patient PERFUSING?” Add using hemodynamic parameters to your critical care practice to manage sepsis & assess perfusion (it is in the guidelines 😋). We owe it to our patients to ensure they SURVIVE SEPSIS using every tool in our toolbox. 🧰 #sepsisawareness #hemodynamics #perfusion #cardiacoutputmonitoring #nurseeducator

Across the globe sepsis has been estimated to result in more than 11 million deaths a year[1] and septic shock, the most severe form, leaves nearly 40% of patients dead at hospital discharge.[2] Worldwide about 5-7 million people develop sepsis with very high endotoxin activity.[3] Endotoxin activity can be measured by an endotoxin activity assay (EAA) test and combined with SOFA score has the potential to identify patients with ESS.[3] As your partner, Baxter is committed to identifying sepsis and innovating for improved sepsis management. This information is from one of the WNF Rapid Reviews on the “The effects of Vitamin D on acute viral respiratory infections”. It concluded with stating: 📚 “The available evidence related to the immunological requirements for adequate vitamin D, clinically meaningful benefits (especially in deficient/insufficient participants), and the high margin of safety, make vitamin D a high priority for additional clinical research for the treatment of upper respiratory conditions.” ❓As a health care provider do you test for #VitaminD levels? 📖 Read the full article: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gV32j_DC ➡️ PMID: 32837896 🔬 Read more #WNFRapidReviews & #NaturopathicResearch: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g7eCr276 #WNF
