Stopping to pause before we head into Mental Health Awareness Week, this week, to reflect on the blessings of the last week celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori across our mahi: ⭐️ Exploring Te Tiriti with our He Puāwai Manukura whānau in rua wiki of the programme. ⭐️ Delivering a Mental Health First Aid Aotearoa refresher to the kaimahi at Downer, where we emphasise self care and holistic wellbeing with Te Whare Tapa Whā. Our director, Kerri Butler, was also warmly welcomed to Temuka with sunshine and the ataahua manaaki of Arowhenua Whānau Services where she met with whānau whaiora and kaimahi. She summed the visit up with this comment: “Mihi kia koutou!! Shout out to Elly, Jo, Korianna, Juanita, for the aroha me manaaki and the pukapuka that I will treasure. Such a beautiful service and I felt the aroha the minute I walked through the door. Such an honour to share in karakia with the whānau and to be uplifted by the ihi and aroha of the waiata”

Good practice in Poland
Driving the strategy and delivery for GLE to support people with lived and or living experience of mental health, substance use and or disability.
I feel very fortunate to be at the Polish National Forum for Mental Health for a few days. Very impressive to see Dr Ken Thompson Kenneth Thompson and Dr Rene Keet René Keet presenting. Big shout out to the WHO team in Poland and Europe region Ledia Lazeri and Dr Nino Berdzuli who have been instrumental in making this event happen. It is such an exciting time in Poland where funding has been announced today by the Ministries to support a comprehensive intersectoral roadmap for national mental health and wellbeing.

As it is OCD awareness week, 13th - 19th October, this is an important share. In my training delivery I talk about the impact of using appropriate language regarding mental health, and common misconceptions around it, and these 6 about OCD covers some of that perfectly, courtesy of MHFA England. Being mindful of what we say and how we say it makes a huge difference in the conversations we have with those who need support, help reduce stigma, and alleviate embarrassment and shame that some will have felt from either not being heard at all, or being led to believe that being open and honest about their wellbeing is something that should be hush, hush, rather than out in the open where help and signposting can be implemented. Being mindful of the words and phrases we all use both in the work environment, posting on socials, or amongst your family and friends can literally be the difference as to whether someone shares with you what is happening to them and how they feel, or not. It takes a lot of courage to talk, and we can all make changes to how and what we say to encourage more open conversation and get rid of the stigma and shame that some feel... nothing gets solved in silence, so let's open up the conversation and encourage more people to talk by actively showing you're a safe person to open up to, and they are in a safe, non-judgemental space.

Prohealth's CSR focuses on two key areas: Mental Health Wellbeing and the Environment. Though seemingly separate, environmental degradation often contributes to mental health issues, making these interconnected challenges. Our approach remains centered on long-term, sustainable wellbeing, ensuring holistic support for those in need.
As part of Prohealth’s CSR commitment to mental health wellbeing, 'Far from Somewhere' reflects our dedication to raising awareness and encouraging dialogue on mental health. It explores the impact of environmental and social changes on mental health, aligning with our broader CSR focus on fostering resilience, shared responsibility, and holistic wellbeing within our communities. Special thanks to Profs. Anton Grech for being part of this event and delivering an impactful message on mental health during the inauguration. Teach for All : Global Mental Health and Wellbeing Community *Mindful Me Pt. 2: Breaking Barriers to Self Care* *Tues 23 Jul at 1-2:30pm GMT* We know that self-care is important, but there are often many things that get in the way of giving ourselves the care we need to be well. Sometimes there are certain mindsets that tell us we don't deserve self-care, or that caring for ourselves takes away from caring for others. Or more often, there are real external factors that are barriers - time, resources and more. Join us for a workshop where we will build upon the Self-Care Inventory we started exploring during our June session, and together we'll begin to take apart some of the barriers that stop us from fully pursuing self-care. Let's dive into what it looks like to truly see ourselves as whole people, so that we can nourish ourselves and those around us in classrooms, organisations and beyond. Mental Health Awareness Month was established in May 1949 to shed light on the complexities of mental well-being and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues. This month serves as a platform for advocacy, education, and support. Mental health is a cornerstone of our overall well-being, influencing every aspect of our lives from relationships to work performance. In recent years, there has been a gradual shift towards openness regarding mental health. One of the primary goals of Mental Health Awareness Month is to encourage dialogue. By fostering conversations about mental health, we create supportive environments where individuals feel safe to share their experiences and seek help. Recently, organizations have been dedicated to raising awareness on mental well-being during Mental Health Awareness Month by hosting events, providing employees with free memberships to mindfulness apps, subsidies for gym memberships, and other strategies.
