Green technologies for the chemical industry 🧪 In the ‘ShapID’ project, nine Fraunhofer Institutes are developing practical methods and technologies for sustainable, green chemistry. Among other things, an innovative MTP demonstrator has been created that shows that the vision of modular, autonomous functional modules or process equipment assembly (PEA) is becoming a reality. Automation with the standardised Module Type Package (MTP) - a digital description of intelligent process engineering modules - is the key element for the rapid assembly and flexible, sustainable and resource-efficient operation of modular systems. We will be showing the demonstrator at ACHEMA 2024 at the Fraunhofer Chemie-Allianz stand. You will find us in hall 6.0, booth D49. 👉 More information about our trade fair appearance and the ShapID project: https://ow.ly/BMhw50RP9vt #ModularProduction #ModularProcesses #ModuleTypePackage #MTP #ProcessEquipmentAssembly #PEA #GreenChemistry Fraunhofer-Allianz Chemie

Update on the EU #MatDeMa Project Today, we had a successful project meeting for the MatDeMa project, marking another milestone in our journey towards sustainable and affordable high-performance composites. MatDeMa is a key addition to the the Composite Unit and DMAC research team's excellence in this field. MatDeMa aims to develop a one-step automated manufacturing process for sustainable Thermoplastic-Fibre Metal Laminates. This process will significantly reduce manufacturing costs and maximise material utilisation without compromising performance, opening new opportunities in sectors like automotive industry .We ensure structural integrity through comprehensive design tools, testing, and characterisation methodologies, with a strong focus on sustainability and circularity from concept to demonstration. The project is coordinated by my Colleague Ahmed Makradi in partnership with Technical University of Chemnitz, Riga Technical University and FordOtosan. On the Photo: Ahmed Makradi, Henri Perrin (DMAC group leader) and our colleagues from Ford (Sude Erkin, Mustafa Başaran), TU Riga (Professor Evgeny Barkanov and Dr Akishins) and TU Chemnitz (Dr Issam Bahtiti) visiting the composite manufacturing facility at Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Stay tuned for more updates! #MatDeMa #DMAC #SustainableComposites #Innovation #Manufacturing #Automotive #CircularEconomy #ResearchAndDevelopment Ford Otosan

#ICIQSeminar | 🙌 Thank you Prof. Anja Palmans from Eindhoven University of Technology for delivering a seminar about single chain polymeric nanoparticles (SCPNs) to obtain nanometer-sized particles with well-defined global conformations in solution. 🧆 Prof. Anja Palmans discussed how heterograft polymers form compartmentalized particles in water, with the graft’s nature shaping the particle. SCPNs can induce local hydrophobic domains without global collapse. 🚰 SCPNs were shown to be effective carriers for catalysis in water. They enhance recyclability, bring catalysts and substrates closer through hydrophobic sequestration, and may perform better in flow systems for light-driven reactions. ⚕️ Bio-orthogonal catalysis using SCPNs holds great promise but requires fine-tuning. SCPNs can diffuse through barriers, with uptake mediated by polymer microstructure. Targeting specific cells or areas remains an exciting challenge for future research. 🔵 Also thanks to our seminar sponsor BASF ICERCA - Centres de Recerca de Catalunya | Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) | SOMM Alliance

Scaling a technology from a piece of paper to a pilot plant is a rare event in chemistry. In the current issue of Nachrichten aus der Chemie, I report on how such a path from the idea, through quantum mechanical simulations, to experimental validation and technical scaling in a startup environment can look like. 📈 The challenges are enormous and complex, not only in terms of technology, but with a strong team it is possible to manage such a project. The journey to this technology began in 2017 at CreativeQuantum GmbH with a lot of simulations with Kenta Stier and later the experimental validation at the Leibniz-Institut für Katalyse e. V. (LIKAT) with the help of Prof. Matthias Beller. Thanks to the great entrepreneurial spirit of Christian Vollmann and Dirk Radzinski in 2021, led to the formation and joint founding of C1 Green Chemicals AG in 2022 to transfer the successes from the laboratory to technical scale. 🧙♂️ Our pilot plant is currently being commissioned in Leuna and scaling up the catalyst production in the kg scale has also been successful in record time. In a few weeks, high-purity methanol will come out of our container and, at the same time, our second-generation catalyst system has been running fully automatically and stably in continuous operation in our technical centre in Berlin for a month now, and is still operating 🐎 ... That is why we are already planning the pre-commercial methanol plant with our great new board member Mathias Mostertz, which will open the door to commercialisation. 🎉 Article: https://lnkd.in/dMrYaQVD #simulations #experiments #catalysis #chemistry #startup #scaleup #technology #methanol #greenchemistry
