In rural India, primary education enrollment is impressively high at 100.6%. Yet, literacy rates paint a troubling picture—states like Jharkhand report rates as low as 57.6%. This gap between enrollment and learning raises a critical question: Why aren’t children learning despite being in school? Challenges? 1. Many rural schools lack qualified teachers. Even where teachers are present, they often don’t receive the training needed to make lessons engaging or tailored to diverse student needs. 2. In many rural areas, children speak local dialects at home but are taught in a state or national language they don’t fully understand. 3. Children who fall behind in early grades often never catch up. If foundational skills like reading and basic arithmetic aren’t mastered early, advanced learning becomes impossible. 4. Policies often prioritize getting children into school, but less attention is paid to what they learn once they’re there. How can we bridge this gap? 1. Policies should focus on measurable learning outcomes, not just enrollment statistics. Regular assessments can help identify gaps and address them early. 2. Focus on foundational literacy and numeracy in the first few years of schooling. Programs like Pratham’s Read India have shown how targeted interventions can make a difference. 3. Teachers need ongoing training to use child-friendly and interactive teaching methods. Investing in teachers is investing in learning. The problem isn’t access—it’s what happens inside the classroom. Teacher shortages, language barriers, poor early learning, and outdated teaching methods leave many children struggling. The solution lies in strengthening foundational skills such as training teachers, working on learning foundations and making learning engaging and relevant. It's high time we shift focus from enrollments to outcomes. #ruraleducation

The recent statistics from Lok Sabha regarding the education crisis in Uttar Pradesh are alarming. With over 11.7 million children across India out of school, and Uttar Pradesh alone contributing approximately 785,000 of these students, we stand at a critical juncture. Education is not just a fundamental right; it is the foundation of empowerment. Without it, we risk losing dreams and potential that could shape our future. The Ministry of Education's acknowledgment of this issue emphasizes the urgency of action. At DEVI Sansthan, we are committed to tackling this crisis through several key initiatives:1. Training Educators as Leaders to foster innovative teaching practices.2. Developing Community-Centered Learning Models to ensure inclusivity.3. Utilizing Technology to make quality education accessible for all.4. Advocating for policies that prioritize Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN).The time for action is now. Together, we can transform the landscape of education and ensure every child's right to an empowered future. #EducationCrisis #FoundationalLiteracy #CommunityLearning #TechInEducation #ChildRights #Empowerment #EducationForAll

The Alarming Education Crisis in Uttar Pradesh! Recent data from the Lok Sabha reveals a distressing scenario—over 11.7 million children across India are not enrolled in schools. Uttar Pradesh alone accounting for a staggering 7.85 lakh out-of-school students. States like Jharkhand and Assam are also grappling with thousands of children missing out on education. These numbers are more than statistics—they represent dreams deferred, potential lost, and futures at stake. Parliament's Education Minister Jayant Chaudhary responded to the question of Telugu Desham Party MP Mathukumili Shri Bharat from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh that more than 11 lakh 70 thousand students across the country are deprived of admission in schools. At DEVI Sansthan, we believe that education is the cornerstone of empowerment. By equipping young learners with Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills, we can transform not only individual lives but also the trajectory of our nation. Our Contribution to FLN: 1️⃣ Training Educators as Leaders – We empower teachers with innovative teaching methodologies, fostering a culture of lifelong learning. 2️⃣ Community-Centered Learning Models – Bridging the gap between schools and communities to create sustainable and inclusive education ecosystems. 3️⃣ Tech-Enabled Learning Resources – Leveraging technology to make quality education accessible to every child, regardless of their socio-economic background. 4️⃣ Policy Advocacy for FLN – Engaging with policymakers to prioritize foundational literacy and numeracy as a national imperative. It’s time for collective action to ensure every child’s Right to Education becomes a reality. Together, we can rewrite the future for these young minds and drive impactful change. P.S. In the #SundayDiaryy-Challenges and Hopes: A Reflection on Educational reform in Bihar In the article, I argue how the recent reform in Bihar's education appears to be a war against the teachers and how this approach will sabotage the reform. The effort to bring about reform in school education is praiseworthy, but the approach appears to be lacking in the right direction. The bureaucracy over there has waged a war against the teachers, and some decisions, like longer hours of schooling for the teachers and canceling of their leaves, are some of the evidence that the bureaucracy does not trust teachers. This is a fundamental flaw in its approach to bringing about reform. Firstly, bureaucracy is never known to bring about reform; it can only maintain a status quo. Grassroots level change at the school level will be brought about by the teachers themselves, and the large-scale change has to be owned by the political leadership. read at https://lnkd.in/gwaGiYXm

Empowering Education in Bihar: Accelerating Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Efforts Ensuring quality education for all remains a pressing challenge in India. Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), the focus is on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) to transform our educational landscape. Assessments like the National Achievement Survey (NAS) and the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) have highlighted significant gaps in foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) among young learners. For instance, ASER reported that only 27.2% of Grade 3 students could read at least a Grade 2 level text, and only 28.1% could do basic subtraction. The government launched the NIPUN Bharat Mission to bridge this gap, aiming for FLN proficiency for all children by the end of Grade 3 by 2026-27. In Bihar, substantial progress is being made through collaborative efforts. District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) have already launched 89 courses on the DIKSHA platform to address FLN challenges. From November 26-28, the second vetting workshop of the year was organized for 33 DIETs at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Bihar. Led by Ms. Rashmi Prabha, Joint Director of SCERT, and Ms. Vibha, Head of Department, with support from Mantra for Change, IPEL, and Involve Learning Solutions Foundation, the workshop focused on refining district-specific courses based on local needs. The sessions emphasized peer learning, incorporating feedback from pilot programs in lab schools, and planning activities through Micro-Improvement Plans (MIPs). With mentorship and collaborative insights, the DIETs are enhancing their courses to better serve their districts' needs. Let's join hands to revolutionize education and unlock the full potential of every child. #Education #NEP2020 #NIPUNBharat #FLN #ECCE #DIET #SCERT #Bihar #MantraForChange #SDG4 #DIKSHA #FoundationalLiteracyAndNumeracy
