Eco-Bb®️ has two modes of action: contact, which is the primary mode of action, and ingestion. When Eco-Bb®️ spores are spayed onto the crop and land on the target insect, the spores attach to the cuticle (outer skin) and begin to germinate. Some insect types, such as caterpillars, may also ingest spores while feeding on treated plant material, allowing the spores to infect them through their mouthparts. As Eco-Bb®️ spores germinate, they release enzymes that weaken the cuticle, enabling the appressorium to penetrate the pest’s body. The fungus continues to grow internally, consuming the pest’s internal organs until it dies. Under optimal conditions, such as high humidity, the fungus then grows out through the insect cadaver to sporulate, producing more spores and a continued source of inoculant for other pests.
