Today is Latin Pulmonary Hypertension Day, an annual observance to raise awareness of the challenges facing patients affected by this condition in Latin America. Many of these were addressed last night at the Alliance for Pulmonary Hypertension live webinar with scientific experts Dr. Guillermo Montes and Dr. Monica Zagolin and PH patient and patient advocate Alicia García Gómez, President of the Sociedad Latina de Hipertensión Pulmonar. A meta-analysis recently published on Pulmonary Circulation suggests that prostacyclin pathway-targeting therapies hold promise for treating chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), particularly patients who are ineligible for surgery or experience persistent/recurrent symptoms after surgical intervention. WINREVAIR met primary endpoint of time to first morbidity or mortality event for the treatment of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) functional class III or IV at high risk of mortality. This data is from the interim analysis of the Phase 3 ZENITH trial. The official Rare Disease Day 2025 video is now out and - as always - it is very inspiring and touching. This annual observance, established by EURORDIS-Rare Diseases Europe in 2008, is very relevant to our patients as the main focus of the activities of the Alliance for Pulmonary Hypertension and its Pulmonary Hypertension Knowledge Sharing Platform is on the rare forms of pulmonary hypertension, ie pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). We are planning to join the rare disease community on 28 February 2025 to raise awareness for the 300+ patients in Europe affected by a rare disease. Together, we can do more!
