🌟 Mark your calendars: The 5th World Congress on Justice With Children is one year away! 🌟 As we count down to the 5th World Congress on Justice With Children, slated to convene in Madrid from June 2 to 4, 2025, we're thrilled to share some exciting updates and opportunities for involvement: Co-organized by esteemed partners including Terre des hommes foundation, Penal Reform International, AIMJF, Fundación Tierra de hombres, and Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICAI-ICADE, with invaluable support from renowned Spanish entities, as well as UN agencies including UNODC, OHCHR, UNICEF, and UNESCO, alongside the UN SR SG VAC, and the OECD - OCDE, this congress is set to be a turning point in championing child-centered justice. Under the theme "Advancing Child-Centred Justice: Preventing and responding to violence affecting children in child justice systems” interconnecting thematics such as: 🔹 Ending Child Detention 🔹 Justice in Times of Crises 🔹 Reinforcing Justice Procedural Safeguards: Digital Justice for Children in Contact with the Law 🔹 Neuroscience Approaches in Child Justice Systems 🔹 Community Empowerment The World Congress will be held in person in Madrid and hybrid online, hosting plenary sessions, workshops, roundtables and more. On #WorldChildrensDay, Penal Reform International stands by children in criminal #justicesystems, reaffirming the need to protect their rights in all settings. 📌 As part of a consortium supported by the European Union, today we launch the Protecting Procedural Rights of Children in the Digital Age (PPRO-Child) Project, in partnership with Terre des hommes - Hungary, Terre des hommes Foundation - Romania, and Fundación Tierra de hombres. This project focuses on developing solutions to safeguard children’s procedural rights in digital justice systems, including online hearings, across the EU and Ukraine. 🔷 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐢𝐦 𝐭𝐨:  🔹 Develop practical tools to protect children’s fair trial rights.  🔹Address risks to justice posed by digital practices like online hearings.  🔹Create solutions informed by children’s experiences and justice actors’ insights.  🔹Promote systemic change through cross-border collaboration and knowledge-sharing. 🔷 Children’s participation is central to this project, ensuring their voices guide the development of justice systems that uphold their rights and meet their needs. #UniversalChildrensDay #JusticeForChildren #DigitalJustice #PPROChild Global Initiative on Justice With Children

Reflexiones sobre el Pre-Congreso Regional Latino Americano de Justicia para Niños, Niñas y Adolescentes.   La semana pasada se llevó a cabo el Pre-Congreso Regional para América Latina, en Cartagena de Indias - Colombia, centrado en “Acelerar progreso en el sistema de justicia para niños, niñas y adolescentes: miradas contemporáneas a las respuestas restaurativas y estrategias de justicia y paz para contextos de violencia, conflicto e inseguridad.”   Este evento reunió a profesionales nacionales e regionales comprometidos con los derechos de la infancia y la justicia adaptada a la niñez, a través de debates y paneles de expertos.   Aspectos destacados del programa:   • Sesión Inaugural con el Vicepresidente del Rama Judicial - Consejo Superior de la Judicatura, Enrique Vallejo Jaramillo; el VicePresidente de la Corte Suprema de Justicia , octavio augusto tejeiro duque ; y la Ministerio de Justicia y del Derecho, Ángela Buitrago. También contamos con la presencia de Marta Gil de la Fundación Terre des hommes Lausanne, Simon Zbinden de la Embajada Suiza en Colombia, así como los representantes del Comité de los Derechos del Niño, Philip D. Jaffé Luis Pedernera. • Panel Experto 1: Abordamos enfoques, marcos jurídicos y prácticas contemporáneas de justicia restaurativa en América Latina, con la participación de magistrados de Chile, Colombia y Argentina.  • Mesas de Trabajo – Ronda 1: Hacia enfoques, marcos jurídicos y prácticas contemporáneas de la justicia restaurativa en la región de América Latina. Este espacio permitió a los participantes intercambiar ideas y experiencias sobre la implementación de la justicia restaurativa en diversos contextos. • Mesas de Trabajo – Ronda 2: Mecanismos de justicia efectivos y centrados en la niñez y la adolescencia para responder a contextos de inseguridad, incluida la violencia y el conflicto: puntos de convergencia entre las agendas de paz y justicia en la región de América Latina. En esta ronda, moderada por Cédric Foussard discutieron estrategias para integrar la justicia con la paz, atendiendo a las necesidades específicas de los niños y adolescentes. • Panel Final: Tras media un dia entero de talleres y mesas de trabajo, Leonel Pena presento conclusiones y acciones clave, culminando en la lectura y suscripción de la Declaración Regional.   Este congreso es un paso crucial hacia la preparación para el 5º Congreso Mundial sobre Justicia con la Niñez, que se llevará a cabo en junio de 2025 en Madrid. New research : Protecting Procedrual Rights of Children in the Digital Age We’re thrilled to have kicked off the PRO-Child (Protecting Procedural Rights of Children in the Digital Age) project! PRO-Child is a collaborative effort across Ireland, Romania, Spain, and Ukraine to protect children’s rights in justice systems that are increasingly using digital solutions. Our goal is to address the unique challenges children face in digital justice environments and ensure their right to a fair trial is protected. Check our new collaborative report on ending Violence Against Children in Detention! We are pleased to share the latest release in the Justice for Children Working Paper Series: "Ending Violence Against Children in Detention in the EU". This report is a meaningful outcome of our event in Madrid this past May 2024, organized through the Data MOSAIC project: https://lnkd.in/etWWXTdd Focused on key gaps in data and protections for children in detention, the report offers clear, actionable steps for policymakers. It’s part of a broader effort to strengthen data collection to better safeguard children’s rights, building on our previous research in this area. Timed with the First Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, this paper connects with global goals like the 2030 Agenda, the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child, and the UN’s Strategy to End Violence Against Children. In Madrid, we brought together leaders in child justice and rights across Europe, as well as young voices, to shape real solutions. Their insights are shaping not only Data MOSAIC research but will guide discussions at the World Congress on Justice With Children.
