  • 🥬🥭 Fresh produce is one of the first sectors in which IPD became involved.  Since 2012, IPD and its team – the "Fresh Family"  👨👩👧👦 – have been connecting producers with interested import companies from the EU. For several years now, Dorra Zairi, Daniel Oppermann and Thomas Derstadt have been working closely together as the so-called “Fresh Family”. 🔍 They monitor intensively on what is happening in the EU market, on the special needs of importers and new trends. In this way, they meet the current demand situation in the European countries  – a key success criterion for IPD.  ✅ The three have divided up the IPD partner countries among themselves. Each IPD expert is responsible for the exporters in their respective countries and for the range of fresh fruit and vegetables growers there have to offer. They know the producers well and appreciate the products.  Daniel Oppermann's favourite product is passion fruit, for example: 🎤 “I love passion fruit. Not only do they taste delicious, they also look beautiful, especially the flowers. Large exporters in Colombia have opened up the market, and now more and more smaller producers are also selling directly.” The range of fresh produce has grown steadily in recent years.   🍄🍉🥑 Today it already comes from 11 partner countries of IPD. The offer includes fruits, including tropical and subtropical fruits, vegetables, herbs and mushrooms. 🌿The selection of organic products is also constantly expanding.  The best place to get an overview of the entire offer is at one of the major international trade fairs such as FRUIT LOGISTICA and Fruit Attraction.  You can find out more about the IPD's fresh produce offer here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/e2aYNhAz

Women's network focuses on global trade 🌍 The new IPD mentoring programme 'Women in Global Trade' was launched yesterday. 🚀 In close cooperation with the Verband deutscher Unternehmerinnen e.V. (VdU) (VdU e.V.) and Women in Business Network - WIB , this promising project is being implemented. The response to the IPD's new offer was overwhelming! More than 40 experienced mentors and just as many female entrepreneurs from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the IPD partner countries attended the virtual kick-off meeting opened by the IPD Experts Nora Eichkorn and Tabea Mack. The initiative offers participants the opportunity to develop their professional skills and to take an active part in addressing the specific challenges faced by women in international trade. The programme provides targeted support for professional and personal development through five key themes: ✔️ Career & Leadership ✔️ Finance & management ✔️ Marketing & networking ✔️ Equality & inclusion ✔️ Work-life balance The mentors are experienced business women from a variety of industries. They will share their knowledge and experience in these areas. They will provide guidance, constructive feedback and motivation. This programme is not only an opportunity to support women in partner countries in strengthening their position in global markets, but also a contribution to promoting gender equality. ⚖️ The exchange of expertise and perspectives will have a lasting impact - both on the individual careers of the participants and on international trade as a whole. We wish all participants an inspiring time and look forward to seeing the results of this promising collaboration! • A visit that highlights the value of sustainable partnerships and targeted support to enable small and medium-sized enterprises to access international markets.

Once a while you need to dive from theories 🎤 straight into reality 🚜 🗺 Immediately after #GABS2024, I went on a field trip to a women-run farm outside Nairobi together with Benjamin Knoedler, Susanne Friedrich, Casjen Ohnesorge, Jan Fraeb and others. This excursion was organized by the IPD - Import Promotion Desk as a side event of the conference. Many thanks to Dr. Thomas Wilde, who is doing a great job at the IPD Hub Kenya, and Patrick Federl for the coordination. 🚜 The KARAKUTA FRESH PRODUCE FARM produces avocados and various herbs such as basil and thyme. Everyone was impressed by how successful the farm has become with support of the #IPD. A sustainable link to the European market has been established and the company is growing. Last year alone, Karakuta Fresh Produce Limited exported 27 containers of avocados. 🎤 It was inspiring to see how elements that we had discussed as best practice at the panel discussion two days earlier at GABS are being implemented on site. The farm works with numerous smallholder farms and has successfully brought them together in a kind of cooperative. Cultivation is controlled and thus a high product quality is achieved together. The quantity allows joint marketing and makes export possible. #Avocados from #Kenya are also successful on the international market because they are available all year round. 💪 A decisive factor in their success is certainly the unbelievable energy displayed by their boss Grace Ngungi. By not officially allowing women to own land, Kenya is depriving itself of an important growth factor. 🌳 A wonderful surprise was that each delegation member was allowed to plant an avocado tree. A tree in Kenya now bears my name. Much to my regret, it was explained that this would not mean a lifelong personal avocado supply 😅 🥑 Speaking of avocados: Avocados from Kenya are sustainable, as there is absolutely no water problem there. Grace's delicious avocados are even certified organic. 🥑 Thanks to IPD, hopefully soon in a wholesale or retail market near you! 😅 And please forgive me, dear LinkedIn #algorithm, for making such a big picture drop again 🙏 BGA Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) Agentur für Wirtschaft und Entwicklung Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH DEG Dr. Julia Bellinghausen Zina Fritsche Olaf Dr. Deutschbein Dejene Tezera UNIDO ITPO Germany UNIDO sequa gGmbH DIHK Heiko Schwiderowski

🌍 Travelling to Kenya is always special. This week at the German-African Business Summit (GABS) 2024 in Nairobi, I had the honour of taking part in the panel discussion: ‘Sowing growth: Increasing agricultural productivity and global integration through the German-African partnership’.   🎤 Thanks to my co-panelists, Dejene Tezera, Matti Spiecker, Dr. Thomas Behrens and Joab Ngai for the great discussion! A big thank you to Marcus Schwenke and ☀️ Katie Gallus for their professional moderation - without a doubt one of the best I have participated in so far.   The follow-up discussions have shown how much interest there is in the IPD - Import Promotion Desk approach. The enthusiasm with which cross-continental co-operation is promoted makes it all the more rewarding. For example, we discussed how trade barriers can be overcome and market access for African agricultural products can be improved. And we talked specifically about the role that policy can play in fostering cross-continental collaboration and unlocking the full potential of Africa’s agricultural sector on the global stage   🤲 In addition, I had the opportunity to meet with several Business Membership Organisation Partnerships (KVP) in Africa implemented by sequa gGmbH in the area of export promotion. The discussions with Cornelia Ott and many others highlighted the significant potential for synergy utilization and knowledge sharing with Business Support Organizations (BSOs) from Ethiopia. Such exchanges are crucial for fostering sustainable development and enhancing the capacity of local actors in export-related fields.   The ‘Partners in Transformation’ network and the bundling of programmes for economic players is, in my view, a good example of how to strengthen economic cooperation and foreign trade. This was also one of the topic I discussed with the wonderful Astou Dia, as we using synergies in supporting women entrepreneurs in several African countries. Looking forward to broaden this approach even more!   🎯 The event emphasized once again that partnerships between Africa and Germany are the key to increasing agricultural productivity, breaking down trade barriers and strengthening African companies on the global market.

  • 🌸 Cut flowers put you in a good mood! However, they are not only a popular gift, but also an important export commodity for many countries. Dr. Andreas Gemählich is the responsible expert for the sector at IPD - 🔥 with a good spirit, of course! He is enthusiastic about the variety of products from the IPD partner countries 🇪🇨 Ecuador, 🇨🇴 Colombia, 🇰🇪 Kenya, 🇿🇦 South Africa New farms are constantly being identified on sourcing missions to expand the range of cut flowers. Direct trade with the farmers has many advantages for the importers. Without middlemen, they benefit from ✔️ lower prices, ✔️ shorter and transparent supply chains and ✔️ individual agreements directly with the producer. You can find an overview about our range of cut flowers here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dVduSmHx And if you want to see the diversity live and in colour, visit the IPD trade fair stand at international trade fairs such as #IFTF-International Floriculture Trade Fair and IPM ESSEN Internationale Pflanzenmesse”, which will take place soon: 📅 28 - 31 January More about the IPD offer at this international flower fair here on this channel!

🌍 Bridging Markets: German-African IT & BPO Summit 2024 🙌 Yesterday I had the honour of attending the German-African IT & BPO Summit a pre-event of the German-African Business Summit (GABS) 2024 in Nairobi. IPD - Import Promotion Desk is starting a new chapter in our programme together with the DSAA (Digital Skills Accelerator Africa) and Invest for Jobs – Sonderinitiative „Gute Beschäftigung für sozial gerechten Wandel“ / Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH. Special thanks go to Eva Lena Richter, Ph.D., Naomi Lwanyaga, Stefan Schütze Tobar and Dr. Thomas Wilde, who paved the way for this great collaboration!   Africa is set for impressive growth in IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) - with a projected growth rate of 4% by 2030. Countries such as Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Tunisia show how innovation, talented professionals and advanced digital infrastructures make the region one of the most promising IT hubs in the world. That is why IPD has selected Kenya and Tunisia beside Sri Lanka as one of the first partner countries in this sector. The dialogue during the summit showed once again how many opportunities lie in this partnership. International companies are increasingly recognising Africa's enormous potential - and it was inspiring to hear stories from companies that are already operating successfully in these markets.   💡 What do I take away? It's time to not only talk about potential, but to actively utilise it. Building partnerships, sharing knowledge and promoting talent are the key to shaping the future together. That is what we have started the last year and there is many more to come.   📍 A big thank you to the organizers and all participants - I look forward to the next steps in this promising collaboration!

Expert Sourcing & Markets - Connecting sustainable tourism companies and natural ingredients producers with the European market.

My trip to Uzbekistan last week was a special one for me for many reasons: 1. Travelling to #Uzbekistan is always a highlight in itself ✈️ 2. Interesting appointments on potential cooperations and the future of #sustainable #tourism with the Uzbekistan Tourism Committee and the German-Uzbek Business Cooperation Bureau -DUWK Büro. 3. We were able to find new and exciting partner companies on our sourcing mission, with whom we will be working on their market access to the European travel market over the next few years. 🤝 4. Last but not least, we had the great pleasure of congratulating some partners on the successful completion of the IPD - Import Promotion Desk programme. It was great to see how these companies have developed over the past few years. Their professional approach and their creative and sustainable tourism products have opened the doors to the European travel market for them and secured long-term business relationships with European tour operators. 👏 🥇 I am now looking forward to accompanying SEZAM TRAVEL Tour Company, Marakanda Travel, Oasis International Travel and Responsible Travel Uzbekistan (Nuratau Travel) on their further progress as IPD alumni!
