After a celebrated career as an actor spanning several decades, Mohanlal recently ventured into direction with his debut film, the children’s fantasy drama Barroz. This milestone adds to an illustrious journey of over 400 films, where he has excelled not only as an actor but also as a producer, distributor, and playback singer. Despite his towering achievements, the Malayalam superstar revealed that he once contemplated leaving the film industry to pursue a simpler, more carefree life.

Reflecting on his son Pranav Mohanlal, who leads a balanced life by blending his acting career with a passion for travel, Mohanlal shared striking parallels between their aspirations. “Pranav won a best actor award in school when he was in sixth grade, just as I did. He follows his own principles and prefers not to take on too many films. Instead, he chooses to travel and occasionally act, and that’s his decision. We fully support him; let him live his life the way he wants,” Mohanlal said during a conversation with Suhasini Maniratnam for Galatta Tamil.

He further elaborated on his own youthful dreams, revealing how his father’s advice shaped his path. “When I shared my desire to pursue a career in cinema, my father insisted that I first complete my undergraduate degree and then follow my passion. I hold the same belief today. Why should we control our kids? At Pranav’s age, I also wanted to quit films and travel the world. I am happy that he’s able to accomplish my dreams too,” Mohanlal remarked.

The superstar’s candid reflections offer a glimpse into his personal journey and values, highlighting a refreshing perspective on individual freedom and familial support. Mohanlal’s evolution, both as an artist and a father, underscores his deep-rooted commitment to embracing life’s varied possibilities.
