At The Majurity Trust, a key part of doing philanthropy differently is using insights and evidence to guide our work. This approach has been instrumental in enabling us to direct resources effectively to address unseen and critical gaps in our society. The issue of migrant worker inclusion is one we have focused on for years. This #InternationalMigrantsDay, we are launching findings from our second study related to migrant workers, shedding light on their unmet needs and aspirations. Building on our first study in 2020, which focused on public perceptions of migrant workers, we have expanded our definition of inclusion this year — from promoting understanding and interactions to looking at their unmet needs, aspirations, and goals. This study focused on low-wage migrant workers in Singapore’s construction, marine shipyard, and process (CMP) sectors. Did you know nearly half a million migrant workers contribute to these sectors, and that makes up 7% of Singapore’s population? Yet, their voices often go unheard. Here are the key findings from surveying nearly 500 low-wage migrant workers in the CMP sector: 🔵 A Drive to Upskill Migrant workers are eager to improve their skills to achieve personal and financial goals. However, time, finances, and employers’ preferences limit their access to courses. Flexible, affordable, and customised training programs are key to bridging this gap. 🔵 Workplace Relationships Are Highly Valued Migrant workers prioritise strong relationships within the workplace over integration with the broader community. They desire more sporting activities and social events within their companies, dormitories, or organised by external groups. 🔵 Need for Financial Literacy & Protection Many migrant workers are vulnerable to scams and exploitation due to limited financial literacy and unfamiliarity with digital payment platforms. Additionally, in upskilling, many have been deceived by poor-quality training or unrecognised certifications. Access to financial education, awareness, and crisis support is crucial. These insights will help guide the future direction of our Scaffold Fund, which aims to foster a more inclusive and gracious society for migrant workers. We are grateful to partners who have helped make this possible — the study was facilitated by Research For Impact, with outreach supported by Woh Hup (Private) Limited and HealthServe Ltd. We are committed to advancing the sector toward evidence-based philanthropy and welcome your thoughts. We will be organising engagement sessions, and if you’d like to join the conversation, please email us at insights@majurity.sg. We cannot wait to see the power of the "nuts and bolts" coming to life here at The Foundry! Watch this space 🌟
What are the nuts and bolts of social impact? The nuts and bolts of social impact are the fundamental pieces that hold the framework of social initiatives together. Just as a structure relies on its foundational components to hold strong, so too does the social sector depend on its people — the doers, connectors, bridge-builders, and enablers who are relentless. They are the ones who don’t give up, they grind and persevere to strengthen the community, one connection at a time. In Singapore's vibrant ecosystem of social impact, individuals and organisations within The Foundry serve as the critical “nuts and bolts” of change. At our recent launch, our theme for the night was uncovering the nuts and bolts of social impact. We celebrated the incredible People of Foundry — the residents, donors and and all the different partners who helped make The Foundry a reality. We are so grateful and look forward to being the home for more conversations which will ignite change! 🌟 #nutsandbolts #peopleoffoundry #foundrysg #thefoundry #socialimpacthub #majuritysg

🌟 The Foundry Now Open for Impact! 🌟 “The founder mindset is that of spotting a problem, challenging the status quo of what is possible and finding a solution to make things better.. We need that founder mindset in the social sector.. people who are like-minded and wanting to do good for society, but they’re going to go about it in unlike ways. The Foundry should never lose that spirit.” — President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, at the launch of The Foundry on #TheMajurityNight2024. We are deeply grateful to our Guest-of-Honour, President Tharman, and Ms. Jane Ittogi, for their steadfast belief in our work at The Majurity Trust. From celebrating our 5th anniversary in 2022 to the launch of The Foundry last night, you have stood by us, offering invaluable guidance and unwavering support in our vision to do philanthropy differently. Established by The Majurity Trust, The Foundry is the result of 7 years of working closely with donors, partners, and grantee organisations to build a strong and vibrant ecosystem that tackles pressing issues in our society. From the community, by the community, and for the community. An audacious project of this scale possible because of the generosity of many. Over $10 million was raised by a collective of private philanthropists and foundations to establish this new home base for collective impact. Our heartfelt gratitude to our Founding Donors who believe in our vision: Low Tuck Kwong Foundation, Yong Hon Kong Foundation, Kuok Group Singapore, Kwan Family, Clotho Family Office, Woh Hup (Private) Limited, Holywell Foundation, BinjaiTree Foundation, Dr Janee Lim and Mr Mark Wong, Mr Lim Ek Tie (Alvin) and Ms Anita Fam, and our Foundation Donors including Mr Kenneth Kan and Financial Markets Association of Singapore The transformation and revitalisation of the historic Elections Department building, in just under 8 months was expertly done with incredible support from build partners: Woh Hup (Private) Limited: Construction, JustCo: Space planning and interior design, WOHA Architects: Architectural design, Nyee Phoe Flower Garden: Landscaping, JEB Group: Sustainable furniture and ambiguous: Lighting design. Gratitude too to our key government partners — the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), Singapore Government Partnerships Office and Tote Board — who were the first to recognise and champion this milestone project alongside us. T-Ignite: Helping enterprises scale sustainably

Launch of the T-Ignite Fund in partnership with Temasek The Majurity Trust is excited to be the grant administration partner for the Temasek T-Ignite Fund, a first-of-its-kind recoverable grant in Singapore for impact enterprises at inflection points in their growth journey. Many impact enterprises in pursuing impact goals are faced with making the difficult choice of needing to sacrifice shorter-term profitability. This puts them in a bind as they might have outgrown startup grants, but are unable to access commercial capital that prioritise financial metrics and diligence. By focusing on an impact-first assessment matrix, T-Ignite seeks to catalyse high-potential impact enterprises who have demonstrated revenue and are ready to invest in their next phase of growth. To enable grantee partners to achieve financial sustainability and sustained impact at scale, the T-Ignite Fund will provide: 🔵 Up to $500,000 recoverable grant with a runway of 3-5 years for repayment 🔵 Potential repayment discounts when pre-determined impact outcome targets are met 🔵 Mentorship and capacity building support where needed Find out more about the fund at https://lnkd.in/gREuuHWb.

Note To All Fundraisers: “Don't spray and pray”. Effective fundraising isn't about casting a wide net. Rather, it is about cultivating relationships and understanding the evolving donor needs. Our recent learning session on Diversifying Fundraising Strategies for our grantee partners examined how targeted strategies and operational readiness can open doors to vital capital, especially for resource-limited nonprofits. Speakers Ly Tran from Myriad USA and Rukmini Pandit from Sattva Consulting also shared global trends, insights and fresh approaches to fundraising. Our 3 key takeaways from the session that are useful for social impact leaders: 🔵 Clarify Capital Needs Effective fundraising starts with clarity on the kind of capital needed and how much. This enables nonprofits to craft strategies that align with their goals while optimising limited resources. 🔵 Focus on Relationships Over Quick Wins Building meaningful relationships with donors takes time. Funders look for organisations they trust, and nurturing these connections ensures that when they’re ready to give, you’re top of mind. 🔵 Unlock Community Capital Start close to home. Individuals often give to organisations they already know —tap into networks of board members, staff, and volunteers to deepen community support before expanding outwards. With clear goals, strategic focus, and the right partnerships, we believe nonprofits can navigate fundraising challenges and build lasting support. We’d like to thank Myriad USA and Sattva Consulting — intermediaries that amplify reach by connecting nonprofits to the right networks. These ecosystem partners play a crucial role in helping organisations build their capacity, focus on their mission, while providing expertise and access to broader donor ecosystems.

I’m here for you. These words can change someone’s life. This was powerfully portrayed in the musical Dear Evan Hansen by Pangdemonium Theatre Company Ltd. It was a pivotal moment for Evan, the protagonist, when his mother uttered those words to him (no more spoilers from us!). The power of these words were also echoed by our grantee partners at a post-show talk on youth mental health. For Asher Low from Limitless, this was the most powerful moment in the musical for him. He hopes to see more of such parent-child moments in the lives of the youths he works with. But often, reality is the opposite. This shows us the pressing need for mental health literacy, to better support those who are struggling. The post-show talks also featured our grantee partners Nicole K. from The Tapestry Project SG, Narasimman S/O Tivasiha Mani from Impart and Steve Loh from Myloh - all tackling youth mental health in different ways. Hearing these voices from the ground lent weight to what the musical portrayed, and was a moving reminder that these issues are real and around us. Let’s take time to be there for someone today. #youthmentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #bluestarsg #majuritysg 📷 : Pangdemonium Theatre Company Ltd
