A major challenge in the life sciences is ensuring that the vast amounts of data produced and stored are reusable, sustainable, and inclusive of diverse populations. Congratulations to the researchers involved in creating the first comprehensive spatial atlas of the developing human thymus! Part of the Human Cell Atlas, this study published in Nature, provides insights into how immune responses are built and maintained from early life. This research could inform immune therapies, including the potential to engineer artificial thymus organs for patients with compromised immune systems.
