Repost: @colinpatricktraining These past few months have been busy for the Colin Patrick Training team. From travelling to Saudia Arabia, Kenya, Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa for training. There have been highlighted experiences for each. Samantha spent time in Kenya and Zimbabwe assisting field rangers with Animal Track and Sign identification. Training them to be more aware and informed of the wildlife they work and live among. Colin and Tristan conducted Operational Man-tracking and Animal Tracking courses in Saudi Arabia. It is amazing to be part of these countries conservation efforts and to observe the eagerness of the field rangers to increase their tracking knowledge. With a variety of courses conducted: Animal Track and Sign Animal Trailing Tactical Man Tracking Dangerous Game Encounter Training Be on the lookout for highlighted stories shared by the team on their experiences! #forcefornature #conservationevolved #wildliferangers #wildlifehero #wildlifeconservation

Biodiversity Supervisor Nyaradzo Hoto is in charge of Akashinga’s reforestation project which will over the coming years provide both local communities and protected wildlife areas with more indigenous trees. Nyaradzo currently houses 20.000 trees in her tree-nursery in Phundundu, Zimbabwe, and the goal for next year is to expand to 100.000 trees. This project will help in both educating school children, prevent illegal logging, rehabilitate damaged ecosystems and mitigate climate change. 🌱🌳🇿🇼 Repost @wildhoodfoundation @weareakashinga #wildhoodfoundation #akashinga #climate #biodiversity #trees #treeplanting #zimbabwe

Repost @galapagosconservancy New Expedition at Wolf Volcano: A Leap Forward for Pink Iguana Conservation We're excited to announce a new expedition to Wolf Volcano on Isabela Island, focused on protecting the Critically Endangered pink iguana. This unique species, found nowhere else in the world, is threatened by environmental changes and invasive species. In joint efforts with the Galápagos National Park Directorate, our team is on the ground, conducting vital research to better understand and safeguard these remarkable creatures. Upon returning from the expedition, the data gathered will help us secure a sustainable future for pink iguanas, yellow iguanas, and giant tortoises on Wolf Volcano. Stay tuned for expedition updates! Learn more about what this means for the future of pink iguanas and how our targeted conservation efforts are making a difference. Let’s come together to support these unique species of Galápagos. 🌍💚 🔗 Read the full story – link in their bio! #ConservationInAction #GalapagosWildlife #PinkIguana #SaveOurSpecies #forcefornature #conservationevolved #wildliferangers #wildlifehero #wildlifeconservation

Repost @oatridgerangers We had a really busy morning doing some surveying around campus to learn more about the incredible wildlife in and around the Oatridge Woodland Pond, and to help us plan some work to improve the pond’s overall health and biodiversity. Today we set up some camera traps, and completed a pond survey. Such a treat to get a wee look at some of the amazing wee creatures that live in the pond - particularly the absolutely giant Great Diving Beetles 🤩 #nature #natureconservation #wildlife #wildlifeconservation #orcs #countryside #ranger #biodiversity #conservation #sruc #ecology #ruralskills #countrysideranger #freshwater #freshwaterinvertebrates #pondlife

Repost: @chengetawildlife One of the many outcomes of the previous Ranger Declaration (Chitwan, 2019) was the publication of the first ever State of the Ranger Report during the 10th International Ranger Federation Congress in Hyères. The data and perspectives in this report are deeply insightful, shared by both rangers and ranger employers ( 1286 rangers and 287 ranger employers responded). Here are some of the stats we found deeply thought-provoking: 🥾 47% of rangers say they don’t feel they have the right resources (personnel, operational, training, equipment, doctrine, information, technology, leadership, budget) to do their activities. 45% of the employers said the same thing. ♻️ 50% of employers stated rangers received refresher training (this is a good start, but refresher training is essential! 100% of rangers should be receiving it!). 🤝🏼 65% of employers de not feel the number of rangers is enough. Yet, 82% of rangers surveyed don’t want their children to be rangers. 🦍 66% of rangers feel they need more training in biodiversity conservation. 🩸64% say they need more training in first aid and emergency response. Correctly training rangers is critical. This goes far beyond simple arrest procedures and the art of patrolling. Rangers do not just need an extra pair of boots, they need to be confident in their training, they need to be decently equipped and staffed. #forcefornature #conservationevolved #wildliferangers #wildlifehero #wildlifeconservation

Training in action! @wildomorrow teamed up with @wildlifedefenseinc and hosted an incredible forensic training course for rangers and law enforcement at our Conservation Centre. Thanks to support from the @usembassysa, these heroes on the frontlines now have the skills and tools to fight wildlife crime more effectively. 🦏💪 Want to know more about how this training is making a real difference in the fight against poaching? One great way to support Rangers is to volunteer your time! These images are from a volunteer group on Dartmoor, UK, who meet up once a month to maintain the moor. This particular day was focused on restoring the historical Haytor Granite Tramway – built in 1820 to transport granite by horse and cart. Volunteers removed turf that had overgrown the tracks. The turf will be reused to restore areas of erosion in the park. We encourage you to look up volunteer groups in your area to join in and support your local Rangers! #forcefornature #conservationevolved #wildliferangers #wildlifehero #wildlifeconservation @lovedartmoor

Scientists and conservationists have collaborated to create what is possibly the largest database of GPS-collared elephants. This collaboration involved collaring 300 African elephants (Loxodonta africana) in an area that spans five countries and is home to the largest population of African elephants in the world. It contains close to 4 million data points that depict elephant movements and identify key connectivity areas and corridors for conservation purposes. Teams from @wwf along with nonprofit organizations such as @ecoexisttrust and Elephant Connection, among others, collaborated on the project, which used data collected over the past 15 years to examine connectivity for elephants. The study represented “a movement process whose maintenance is critical to effectively conserve elephants across the entire landscape.” African elephants, the largest land animals on Earth, are an endangered species that are under threat from poaching, habitat loss and conflict with humans.
