We released a report today setting out an alternative approach to locational wholesale pricing capturing the benefits interconnectors can provide to the UK’s energy system. The report also sets out significant opportunities to increase the benefits provided by interconnectors within a national wholesale market. The report ‘Getting Interconnectors Right for Net-Zero: Reforms to improve interconnector planning and operation within a national wholesale market’ has highlighted the need to place interconnectors at the heart of emerging strategic planning. Great news that Muir Mhòr Offshore Wind Farm Limited is the first #ScotWind floating project to submit both onshore and offshore consent applications following a 12-month consultation period with the local community. This is a significant milestone for the project in its journey to generating 1GW of clean power when fully operational in the years ahead. #renewables #offshorewind
📣 A major milestone for Muir Mhòr Offshore Wind Farm 📣 After extensive consultation with local communities and stakeholders, we have submitted our offshore and onshore consent applications for determination. We are proud to be the first fully floating offshore wind farm from the ScotWind leasing process to reach this point. This is hugely significant, not just for our team who have worked so hard to get here, but for Scotland and the rest of the UK. Muir Mhòr is on its way to becoming one of the world’s first commercial scale floating offshore wind projects. We are very excited to see what the future holds. Our latest blog, Why pylons are needed for an affordable net-zero future, dives into one of the most pressing questions in energy infrastructure: why can’t all new grid connections go underground, under the sea or rely solely on offshore hubs? With the UK’s net-zero targets approaching fast, this blog explores the balance between environmental impact, cost-effectiveness and practical solutions for upgrading our grid. 🔗 Read it on our website: https://lnkd.in/e-xG8TGM. #renewables #grid #networks Holly Thomas Stephen McKellar
