#GCAW24 is certainly well under way, and one of the activities we wanted to highlight was this week’s Christmas party, held to show our appreciation for our One Spa members and their custom over the last year. It was really great to get some time all together in a relaxed environment, with everyone gathered from our own members community. Genuine quality time spent well - thank you to all that supported the event.

To celebrate WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY we wanted to tell you all about our new on-site herb garden! We have upcycled some old pallets to create this beautiful planter (shout out to Paul in Concierge) and are now using our own home grown mint varieties to garnish our drinks in One Square bar, and some food garnishes in the Brasserie. There is alot of activity going on at the hotel on reducing food waste, and within other areas of the business, and every single action and step counter towards the bigger picture. Fresh mint Mojito in One Square this weekend anyone?

This afternoon we set up a table in One Square Bar & Brasserie with some tasty samples for our guests, to try our range of "Zero Food Waste" items. These included our, 🍉 Homemade watermelon cordial: Using leftover watermelon fruit from breakfast, we boil this down with water and sugar to make fresh, fruity cordial. 🌮 Home-smoked BBQ brisket, pickled red onion, zero-waste chilli and watermelon rind ketchup 🍪 Shortbread biscuits with ground-coffee for a subtle twist on a classic Thank you team, and thank you to all our lovely guests who came to hear about what the Sheraton Grand is doing to contribute - it is genuinely such an important initiative that we are all taking seriously.

Today is World Cocktail Day and also the beginning of Marriott International Associate Appreciation Week - a more than apt time to recognise One Square associate, Caitlin Saunders, for her achievement in going through to the finals of X MUSE ('Tenth Muse') Spirits Limited Art of Bartending Prize competition 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Caitlin's cocktail, "Poetic Rhythm" was based on Henri Matisse's 1910 piece, "Dance", to highlight the human connection to dance, rhythm, movement and music. Caitlin says, "The piece stands out from the red, bold colour of the people dancing, and to me connotes fire and heat. This lead to me choosing chilli as my base for the cocktail." Caitlin is now working on her final competition cocktail entry, which is to be based on a piece of art from Jupiter Artland... Well done Caitlin - and good luck in the final.
