You've probably heard that "sugar is the new tobacco" many times before.
Finally it looks like US sugar is having its 'tobacco moment'. 😲
In many countries, mandatory front-of-pack labelling for foods warn consumers of risk just like on cigarette cartons.
But for many years the world's biggest economy 🇺🇸 has resisted.
Now, the FDA is officially aiming for mandatory labelling on US foods as well!
Whatever you think about mandated labelling, it's hard to argue its efficacy.

🍽 In Israel, red labels have led to significant positive changes in 76% of the population’s food buying habits.
🚬 Americans who smoke is 11% today compared to nearly 50% back in the day an life expectancy has risen nearly 11 years.

One answer is, because we've just invented the big solution right now.
But these tectonic social and regulatory shifts are a major driver for what's going to come, as evidenced by the history of tobacco.
In the words of the authors in TIME:
"While front-of-package labeling is a crucial first step, education and awareness alone will only get us so far. To drive even more significant change that will lead to a healthier population, we must also incentivize the production and widespread distribution of healthier alternatives. These alternatives—a packaged cookie with healthier ingredients, for instance—must be just as delicious, and readily available as those loaded with sugar."
America 🇺🇸 (and the rest of the world 🌎), we're here to help!
