Highlights from NBSO-Texas' week! ✅Baukje "Bee" Kothuis attended the ASCE: EWRI Houston Chapter, where she connected with stakeholders involved in Texas’s water and infrastructure industries. These strong contacts are a next step towards further strengthening our cross-Atlantic collaboration. ✅Stef van de Vijver joined Cup of Joey®️ in our Ion Houston homebase, a networking event with a focus on purpose-driven connections. His purpose? Helping Dutch entrepreneurs gain traction in Texas’s fast-growing markets. It was a good opportunity to connect and reflect on what drives us. Thank you for the inspiration Joey Sanchez! ✅Bee and Stef also visited PVE USA, part of the Dutch Dieseko Group. Together with Business Unit Manager Garrett Smith, they explored partnership possibilities in the offshore sector. It’s another step in linking Dutch expertise with Texas opportunities. NBSO-Texas is here to support Dutch entrepreneurs on their journey into Texas – making connections and paving the way forward together.

Amazing #startup & #scaleup ecosystem & location (look at that view from the 16th floor!) where companies not only meet, but also have access to venture capital attracting opportunities. Its a wrap! Vandaag ronden we onze Innovatiemissie in de Verenigde Staten af. Een week lang dompelde we ons samen met vertegenwoordigers van het Nederlands energiesysteem onder in innovaties en inspiratiesessies in een zoektocht naar manieren om onze energienetten sneller toekomst-klaar te maken. Ook hier in de Verenigde Staten werken ze hard aan het maken van de omslag van fossiel naar hernieuwbaar. In Boston en Houston mochten we deze ontwikkeling met eigen ogen zien, een greep uit het programma: Bij Jupiter Power Storage ontdekten we hoe batterijen helpen het elektriciteitsnet in balans te houden, en Malta Inc en Form Energy leidde ons door hun innovaties in langetermijnopslag van energie. Bij Massachusetts Institute of Technology en Rice University spraken we met onderzoekers over de digitalisering van energienetten, en het Greater Houston Partnership toonde ons hoe Houston als “energiehoofdstad van de wereld” zich ontplooit tot een volwassen waterstofhub. In de ontmoetingen van afgelopen week blijkt dat ook Amerikaanse bedrijven en instellingen tegen voor ons bekende uitdagingen aanlopen zoals de noodzaak tot extra energieopslag in het systeem. Tegelijkertijd verschillen we ook op vlakken sterk van elkaar zoals in marktordening en de invloed van externe risico’s zoals bosbranden en overstromingen op de leveringszekerheid voor consumenten en bedrijven hier in de VS. Terugkijkend op deze week neem ik het volgende mee 1) Om congestie beter te kunnen aanpakken moeten we naar ons marktmodel kijken, zonal of nodal pricing kan hier uitkomst bieden 2) Er zijn verschillende opslagvormen nodig om aan de diversiteit van electriciteits-vraag te kunnen blijven voldoen in een systeem met veel duurzame invoeding. Tevens moeten we overwegen om fysieke plaatsen aan te wijzen waar ze het meest tot hun recht komen in het systeem. 3) Ondanks de schaal en subsidie voor waterstof in de USA, staat het ook daar nog in de kinderschoenen. Veel dank aan alle deelnemers voor hun actieve deelname aan deze reis en natuurlijk aan Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency en Netherlands Innovation Network in Boston voor hun inzet om van deze innovatiemissie een succes te maken. Laten we samen onze learnings inzetten om de snelheid van de transitie erin te houden, iedereen van de benodigde energie te voorzien en het systeem betaalbaar houden! #BreakBulkAmericas was in town! #Houston #Texas Over three days, key players in the #breakbulk and #project #cargo sector came together to connect, showcase their products, and conduct business. ⏫ The overall sentiment was one of #optimism, with a strong belief that business in this sector both in Texas and worldwide is on the rise. 🌊 🌬 Hurricanes #Milton and #Helene have unfortunately reminded everyone how important coastal resilience is. In #Texas, we are grateful that we have been spared this time, but everyone realizes that it's not "if," but "when" it will be our turn. Therefore, it's encouraging that the collaboration between the Netherlands and Texas on flood resilience remains so strong, and in that light, Professor Bas Jonkman’s visit to #Houston and #Galveston last week was very well timed. Based from the Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas (IDRT), Texas A&M University Galveston, and Delft University of Technology, he is working with IDRT colleagues Sam Brody, Jens Figlus, Yoonjeong Lee, Andrew Juan, Bill Merrell, and other researchers from TAMUG and Rice on coastal resilience. Together with a.o. Rijkswaterstaat, @I-STORM - international storm surge barrier network, USACE Galveston, and Gulf Coast Protection District, they are combining their expertise to create sustainable and innovative designs for storm surge barriers, dunes, and seawall enhancements for the Texas Coastal Protection Project. ✅ I’m honored and proud to support these efforts from Texas. 🇳🇱 Dutch companies visiting NBSO Texas office in September! Over the past month, we had the pleasure of hosting several #Dutch companies at the Ion and our new NBSO Office. We engaged in dynamic exchange on their new projects in #Texas, locating offices to Texas, and collaborations on sustainable initiatives with local organizations in the Houston-Galveston Bay area for mobility and coastal resilience. ✅ We caught up with representatives from Siron Dry Deluge Testing Inc., Gemco International Engineering & Contracting, Pon North America and BikeHouston, and Fugro.
