We All Belong Outside.

About us

Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E. - led by a racially and ethnically diverse group of leaders, this outdoor equity initiative aims to build momentum by addressing the systemic barriers to nature and the outdoors that exist for youth in our country. The creation of a fund will ensure large scale, long term, secure investments in programs across the nation to serve our youth through meaningful outdoor recreation, and nature-based education experiences. Because we know firsthand the joys and health benefits of time spent outside, and we believe every child in our nation deserves to have the opportunity to experience those benefits regardless of their income and zip code. Want to get involved and partake in shaping an equitable Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E for our youth? Follow @OutdoorFUTURE and head over to OutdoorFUTURE.org to sign up to their newsletter!

What an incredible time sharing space with hundreds of individuals for Colorado Adventure Day hosted by Rocky Mountain National Park! We are reminded time and again of the power of nature to inspire change, build community, support our health, give us purpose, and SO MUCH MORE. Thank you to everyone who joined, our amazing facilitators, and our volunteers. Y'all reminded us WHY we do this work: because we can only do this in community. And a mega thanks to our sponsors, Rocky Mountain Conservancy, Continental Divide Trail Coalition, Trust for Public Land, Outdoor FUTURE, Friendsheep, Native Women's Wilderness, Visit Estes Park, Citizen Watch America, Sawyer Products, Clif Bar, YMCA of the Rockies, and National Parks Conservation Association, for believing in our young but mighty work and investing in breaking down barriers to the outdoors for our community. We're ready to return to Colorado soon and expand our programs to other geographies. Where should we go next?

  • Q&A With Vasu Sojitra This month, we celebrated Disability Pride and the 34th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. We also had the opportunity to talk with Vasu Sojitra, disability access strategist, professional athlete and fellow member of Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E. We discussed what disability justice looks like, why it is important to celebrate it, he reminded us that disabled is not a bad word, and more. Head over to our blog to read what he had to say and learn more about the meaning of disability. “Having pride in our bodies however they are can help us all embrace difference and uniqueness. This pride can help showcase the success that people with disabilities have when provided the opportunity and support. We’re not in this alone.” Photo Credit: Sophia Jaramillo #DisabilityPride #AccessForAll #OutdoorFUTURE https://lnkd.in/gbzRDmPX

  • How did Pride Month come and go so quickly?! We have another week to celebrate, and the rest of the year to support LGBTQ+ programs and orgs!💖Here are some neat organizations that provide LGBTQ+ outdoor programs and camps to their communities: 💫 @bravetrails is a national non-profit organization dedicated to LGBTQ+ youth leadership. They offer accredited summer camps, backpacking trips, family camps, mental health services, meet-up groups, and year-round leadership programming. All of their programs focus on helping LGBTQ+ youth find what they need most to thrive. 💫 @confluence.collective works collaboratively to remove barriers, support individual + community growth, instigate change, and amplify stories more representative of human diversity on the water. They host fly-fishing campouts in the summer in multiple locations, and their registration is currently open! 💫 @camptentrees is a place for diverse youth in Washington State who share common experiences to come together and form a community that is truly their own. In addition to traditional camp activities like swimming, archery, and nature hikes, campers engage in age-appropriate workshops exploring identity, issues of oppression/privilege, youth coalition building, social justice, and more. 💫 @cottonwoodgulch is a grantee of the @nmoutdoorrec New Mexico Outdoor Equity Fund. They create outdoor learning adventures for youth from all backgrounds that foster personal growth, strengthen community, and inspire stewardship of the natural world through summer camping and backpacking experiences. 💫 @queersurf currently serves 12000 queer, nonbinary, and trans wave riders annually through in-person programming in California. Their mission is to connect queers to their bodies, and the ocean, create an inclusive surf community, support queer mental and physical health through their relationship with the ocean and expand surf culture by advocating a culture of belonging on the waves, and support the engagement in marine science and coastal stewardship. Check these organizations out and visit their websites for more info on current campouts and registrations! #OutdoorsForAll #OutdoorFUTURE #AllBodies #Pride
