As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which commences this Monday, November 25, we are starting our 730km journey today from Brisbane to Sydney, in honor of the women who have tragically lost their lives to gender-based violence. Throughout this campaign, we will participate in key events and launch new face-to-face services for women and girls in Sydney’s western suburbs. Today marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, with this year's theme of: #NoExcuse. All around the globe, women's rights are being abolished - every 10 minutes, a woman is murdered by family members or partners. This act of femicide is the most brutal result of the cycle of gender-based violence - a cycle that women and girls experience in all aspects of our lives. This campaign aims to draw attention to the horrific rise of violence against women and girls, as well as hold perpetrators accountable to end and prevent this violence. Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence! According to a report by UN Women, for at least 51,100 women in 2023, the cycle of gender-based violence ended with one final and brutal act—their murder by partners and family members. That is why, during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the UNiTE campaign is drawing attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women under the theme, “Every 10 Minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women”. Join us for the 16 Days of Activism as we unite to stand against gender-based violence and demand accountability from decision-makers. Each day, we’ll share inspiring quotes from long time Maitri advocates—steadfast allies of survivors—highlighting the urgent need to end gender-based violence. Stay tuned and follow our posts to be part of the movement! #16daysofactivism #endviolenceagainstwomen #endgenderbasedviolence #NoExcuse #UNiTE, #unitednations #communityawareness #maitribayarea #maitricampaigns #maitriadvocates

As we observe the 2024 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, it is crucial to reflect on the progress since last year’s campaign. While both the 2023 and 2024 editions share the same core mission—to raise awareness and advocate for an end to violence against women and girls—they also signify a growing recognition of the need for comprehensive solutions. The 2024 campaign continues to amplify global voices, focus on intersectionality, and prioritize the need for systemic change in preventing gender-based violence. This year’s theme continues to demand accountability, highlighting that ending violence is not just a goal but an urgent, collective responsibility. Together, we can break the silence, challenge harmful norms, and support policies that protect women and girls everywhere. #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #StopViolenceAgainstWomen #GenderEquality #NoToGBV #WomenRights #16Days2024 #ActivismForChange #StandUpForHer #TogetherAgainstGBV
