🎤 “To deliver on the #2040target we need to boost #renewables and de-fossilize our energy system. The EU should have a strong strategy to phase out #fossilfuels. De-fossilizing the #heating sector is key to delivering the #energytransition. Today, sustainable #bioenergy is the main source of #renewableenergy in Europe, especially for heating (55.7% of all renewables and 83,6% of all #renewableheating),” states Jean-Marc Jossart, Bioenergy Europe’s Secretary General. 💪 The European #bioenergy sector is ready to scale up its contribution to the energy transition. We are proud to stand with 23 #cleanheat organisations in asking the European Commission to prioritize heating and cooling for the upcoming 2040 energy and climate framework. Read the declaration here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/de3Ympb6
We need a robust #heating and #cooling #decarbonisation action plan to put the EU on track for 2040! 💪 2 weeks ago, 20 organisations urged the European Commission and Member States to prioritise heating and cooling decarbonisation within the upcoming 2040 energy and climate framework. 🎯 Today, we were delighted to host co-signatories and clean heat supporters from over 23 organisations to discuss the next steps of this declaration, and put forward concrete proposals for the next European Policy mandate. Climate resilience is everyone’s business.
Last week I had the exciting opportunity of attending a lunch event with Hon Mick de Breni MP, the Minister for Energy and Clean Energy Jobs. His presentation highlighted QLDs progress with our clean energy transition and what is ahead on the horizon. It’s exciting to be a part of this progress. The Queensland Media Club did a great job holding this event with #GriffithUniversity being one of the sponsors. The full event video is available to view on the QMC YouTube Channel. #cleanenergy #climaterisk #towardsnetzero #climatereadyinitiative #griffithuniversity

Sunnova has been awarded federal funding to bring an advanced microgrid system to the Penobscot Nation in Maine. Supported by the Maine Grid Resilience Program, Sunnova was selected to deploy electric grid resilience projects in communities throughout the state, this project will enhance grid resiliency, ensuring reliable power for the community during electrical grid interruptions. "Sunnova’s microgrid will provide a critical source of dependable power when the grid goes down, particularly for our Penobscot Community and Commercial Centers, helping us maintain essential health and administrative services.”— Kirk E. Francis Sr., Chief of the Penobscot Nation Learn more about how Sunnova is building resilient, sustainable energy solutions for communities: https://bit.ly/4hY4weq

Lack of capacity is an impediment to local climate action, especially for small cities and counties. #colorado #cities under 35,000 in pop. and #counties under 200,000 that need a staff person to support local #climate and #sustainability efforts are eligible for #funding from the Colorado Energy Office Applicants are strongly encouraged to partner with other local governments in their region to collaborate on emission reduction projects. Staff capacity awards will be limited to a maximum of $80,000 per year or $240,000 total over three years, whichever is greater. The maximum one-time award for regional collaboration cannot exceed $1,000,000. No matching funds are required. To kick start this program, we are hosting a webinar on June 11 from 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM MT. Registration: https://lnkd.in/evBssWeQ

Whichever party is elected this Thursday, we hope to see recognition of the role decentralised energy plays in both enabling decarbonisation of heat for buildings and in enhancing energy security. ✅ We would like to see the rapid adoption of heat network zoning and the establishment of a favourable investment environment for the development of new heat networks. ✅ #Durotan #generalelection #districtheating #districtenergy #decarbonisation #netzero #renewableenergy #futureenergy #heatnetwork #heatnetworkzoning

⚡In any system there are forces driving towards the future and those working to keep things as they are. In the energy transition, those forces are often different for rural areas than for urban centres. From March to June 2024 the Energy Futures Lab explored those facing the TownofViking, Alberta and the surrounding region. 🔍The town invited us to help investigate how the community might seize the opportunities and avoid the pitfalls of modernizing its electricity system in order to generate the best possible outcomes for current and future generations of citizens. To do this, we conducted some original research into the conditions that were holding the current system, along with its benefits, drawbacks and inequities in place. The image below is a summary of what we found. 💡To dive deeper into these barriers and drivers, check out our recently published Final Report from the Town of Viking & Area Energy Futures Roadshow: https://lnkd.in/e2NN4ZQ9 #RuralEnergyTransition #EnergyTransition #ABEnergy

Few days ago European Commission published a new report by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) on #SmartDHC - Link to the report: https://lnkd.in/dJgQz2cT It is no surprise, to me, that their findings are that "Smart thermal networks represent a substantial opportunity for urban areas, functioning with increased efficiency and smarter control at lower flow temperatures" and that #DistrictHeating and #DistrictCooling systems have a substantial role in shaping the future sustainable smart energy system. The report further underlines that Europe is in a unique position when it comes to #DistrictEnergy: - We have the most advanced systems in the world, we have advanced industry players, including Danfoss Climate Solutions which in my opinion is at the forefront, LOGSTOR District Heating Solutions, Kamstrup, GRUNDFOS. - Leading global consultants, which include Ramboll, COWI, Sweco. - Major international utilities with long history of operating district energy systems, for example ENGIE, Veolia, Vattenfall, Fortum. Of course, Europe has vast pool of super skilled local and global players in addition to the few mentioned above that are massively contributing to the success of the sector and are vital for ensuring the future growth of the sector as well as for creating the foundation for a strong European green district energy solution export industry to the rest of the world. I congratulate Jonathan Volt and his team for this great report, which I and my colleagues Jan Eric Thorsen and Aytaj Imanova Kinner had the pleasure to contribute our expertise to, along with Aksana Krasatsenka and Gabriele Pesce on the behalf of the members of Euroheat & Power and DHC+ Platform and Lars Hummelmose and Morten Jordt Duedahl on behalf of the members of the Danish Board of District Heating (DBDH). #Decarbonization #SectorIntegration #HeatNetworks #Decarbonization #EnergyEfficiency
