Today is World Ovarian Cancer day! The term 'ovarian cancer' is often used to describe cancers that originate in the ovary, fallopian tube, or peritoneum. About 90% of ovarian cancer cases are epithelial cancers, which commonly begin in the fallopian tube. Overall, ovarian cancer ranks as the fifth most common cause of cancer-related death among women in the United States. In 2020, an estimated 207,252 people worldwide died from ovarian cancer. Just a quick update on Pancreatic Cancer outlook in This year, more than 800 British Columbians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Its projected that only 10 per cent (or 80 of those people diagnosed) will live five years. Pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect at an early stage and is often resistant to treatment. Although it is the tenth most common cancer in Canada, it is the fourth leading cause of cancer death. Unless more effective treatment strategies are found, pancreatic cancer in Canada is projected to become the second leading cause of cancer death by 2030.

According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer (both small cell and non-small cell) is the second most common cancer in both men and women in the United States (not counting skin cancer). The most effective way to find lung cancer at its earliest stage is with a low-dose CT lung cancer screening. A low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for lung cancer is a specialized test that is used to find lung cancer before it is symptomatic and before it has spread. Today marks Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day.   Ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer in women. METASTATIC CANCER Metastatic cancer refers to cancer that has spread beyond the point of origin to other distant areas of the body. Metastasis is a word used to describe the spread of cancer. Unlike normal cells, cancer cells have the ability to grow outside of the place in your body where. they originated. When this happens, it's called metastatic cancer, advanced cancer or Stage IV cancer. The most common sites for cancers to metastasize include the lungs, liver, bones and brain. Other places include the adrenal gland, lymph nodes, skin and other organs. Some people will have minimal or no symptoms of metastatic cancer. In most cases, metastatic cancer is not curable.
