METASTATIC CANCER Metastatic cancer refers to cancer that has spread beyond the point of origin to other distant areas of the body. Metastasis is a word used to describe the spread of cancer. Unlike normal cells, cancer cells have the ability to grow outside of the place in your body where. they originated. When this happens, it's called metastatic cancer, advanced cancer or Stage IV cancer. The most common sites for cancers to metastasize include the lungs, liver, bones and brain. Other places include the adrenal gland, lymph nodes, skin and other organs. Some people will have minimal or no symptoms of metastatic cancer. In most cases, metastatic cancer is not curable. However, treatment can slow growth and ease many of the associated symptoms. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinking #snsdesignthinkers

Today marks Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day. Ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer in women. It develops when abnormal cells in the ovaries start to grow and divide, eventually growing into a tumour. If ovarian cancer isn't treated, cancer cells can gradually grow into the surrounding tissues and may spread to other areas of the body. However, ovarian cancer can be treated successfully, especially if diagnosed early. Our Integrated Cancer Campus provides expert-led treatment for ovarian cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer (both small cell and non-small cell) is the second most common cancer in both men and women in the United States (not counting skin cancer). The most effective way to find lung cancer at its earliest stage is with a low-dose CT lung cancer screening. A low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for lung cancer is a specialized test that is used to find lung cancer before it is symptomatic and before it has spread. Talk to your doctor to see if a LDCT is right for you! https://lnkd.in/gjusQFJ2

Every year in November, Canada celebrates Lung Cancer Awareness Month. In Canada, approximately 1 in 4 cancer deaths are due to lung cancer. With lung cancer being a leading cause of cancer death in Canada, we strive to bring awareness to the inequalities that affect individuals with lung cancer. In comparison to other commonly diagnosed cancers, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer, lung cancer is not as commonly screened for, despite it being the second most common type of cancer. Improving screening programs and talking to a doctor about the signs and symptoms are important ways to improve early diagnosis, and the overall outcomes for individuals with lung cancer. #lungcancerawarenessmonth

🤔❓ What do we really know about Small Cell Lung Cancer? Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a less common type of cancer, but its impact is not small. Despite its lower prevalence, its aggressive and complex nature makes it one of the biggest challenges in lung cancer treatment. 🔬 At #PharmaMar, we have been researching this type of cancer for over 10 years. Our goal is to develop innovative treatments that help improve the quality of life of people affected by SCLC. We are aware that, although this cancer is less widely known 🤫, its impact on patients is far-reaching, which is why we continue researching to offer solutions. Every type of cancer deserves attention, and at PharmaMar, we continue to work to make progress in treating all of them.🤝 #LungCancerAwarenessMonth

The secrets of small cell lung cancer… Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death in the US and small cell lung cancer is the deadliest form of lung cancer. While we have been doing the same treatments for more than 20 years, newer advancements have been made and I think the treatment of this aggressive disease will look very different within the next five years. In my review article below, published in the Cancer treatment and Research Journal, I tired to summarise where we stand today, focused on Lurbinectedin as the only FDA approved therapy in the 2nd line setting for more than 20 years, and looked at the future of the disease management. https://lnkd.in/e29ivgVm

Next month is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and here's clear evidence of why it's more important than ever: While preparing content for (precisely) Lung Cancer Awareness Month, I searched for 'lung cancer' on Canva to find some B-roll videos. None of the results were related to lung cancer. How is it possible that when literally typing the word 'lung,' there are no videos representing the #1 cause of cancer death globally? This is why we need to speak up. This is why we need to raise awareness. Lung cancer claims more lives than breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers combined in the US. It deserves the attention and visibility that reflects its devastating impact. OncoSwab #lungcancer #lungcancerawareness
