Check out this blog from partners at Population Council, Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition, and Population Services International that highlights how vital end-user feedback is in the development of responsive MPTs that prevent pregnancy, HIV and other STIs: https://lnkd.in/eshRdh9v CAMI Health, Bethany Young Holt, PhD, MPH, Public Health Institute, Male Contraceptive Initiative
Research and development of new multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) benefits from feedback earlier in the process, as detailed in this blog from Population Council, Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition, and Population Services International. By bringing end users into the process, and building in more inclusive research practices, developers can design more responsive MPTs. “Approaches to contraceptive development that prioritize the voices of end-users can help meet diverse needs and desires for new contraceptives globally….However, as new products are developed, including novel methods of male contraception, there is an urgent need to do this among men and other gender diverse groups.” Bethany Young Holt, PhD, MPH, The Initiative for MPTs (IMPT), Public Health Institute, Male Contraceptive Initiative

Sexwise.org.uk Closing Despite FPA Offering to Run it for Free! Below - our offer to run Sexwise but it might be easier to read here: https://lnkd.in/daAmnXhx The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has sent out the following to clinicians: “As you may be aware, Sexwise was launched by Public Health England (PHE) …and management of the website was inherited by DHSC in 2021. “DHSC currently contracts a provider to deliver technical maintenance and support for the website, and this contract will end on 2 March 2024. Following the end of this contract Sexwise will close, and the site will no longer be available. “We understand that the website has been a valued sexual and reproductive health resource for professionals, and the general public, and that this may be disappointing news. “We are closing Sexwise due to financial challenges, in part because of the significant resources needed to bring Sexwise completely up to date, and to develop and maintain it for the long term to fully meet required digital and clinical standards. “There is also extensive sexual and reproductive health information already available from other sources…In addition, DHSC does not routinely provide bespoke for-public websites on other health topics.” === Family Planning Association Offer to Run Sexwise for Free === FPA developed & launched Sexwise in 2016 on behalf of PHE because there is a need for a free-to-access national digital sexual and reproductive health resource for both professionals and the public. Due to a lack of government funding, Sexwise was handed back over to PHE/DHSC in 2019 but the basic need for this resource has not gone away. We are deeply disappointed that Sexwise was not maintained. Despite significant resources needed to update it, we offered to run Sexwise free of charge: 1) Sexwise.org.uk would remain free-to-access for patients and clinicians 2) FPA would create up-to-date free-to-access keynote patient information guides on popular methods of contraception 3) FPA would create up-to-date free-to-access keynote patient information guides on common STIs (A keynote guide would typically be the equivalent of a 3-to-4-page guide summarising the typical 15-to-20-page FPA patient information guides.) 4) Sexwise would have other free-to-access information including where to get: * Free STI tests * More free-to-access information online and over the phone 5) Free Booklets: Supporting the Healthcare Community FPA also offered to give £10,000 of patient information booklets to NHS Trusts / NHS-run GUM clinics - that’s nearly 40,000 detailed sexual health booklets. Offer Rejected!!! The DHSC has rejected our offers to run Sexwise and we do not understand why. Help save Sexwise We can’t see a downside for patients, clinicians or the DHSC. If you have contacts at DHSC/OHID - please can you ask them to reconsider the FPA offer and save this valuable resource? Thank you Adam

I am doing an analysis on EU's policies on - and funding for - sexual and reproductive health R&I; I've been looking in Horizon Europe's Strategic Plan and Work Programmes, the EU GHS, GAP III and the GES, and I find nothing. No mention of issues like contraception, menstrual health, eclampsia, post-partum hemorrhage, and barely anything on STIs. There are some commitments on HPV (Mission and Action Plan on Cancer). The word "women" is mentioned *once* in the 101 pages of Horizon Europe Strategic Plan (2021-2024). Once. Am I missing something or are these issues completely overlooked in EU R&D? Friendly and knowledgeable health workers play a crucial role in educating young women about female condoms, including their correct use, benefits, and availability. Female condoms empower women by giving them greater control over their sexual health and contraception. They offer a reliable method to prevent both unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. One of the standout advantages of female condoms is their dual protection. Unlike many other forms of contraception, female condoms prevent both pregnancy and STIs, which is particularly vital for young women who may be at higher risk for STIs.Have you ever seen a female condom? If not, don't worry! We have both female and male condoms available at our offices, and our friendly staff are here to provide you with all the information you need. Whether you're curious about how to use them, their benefits, or just want to learn more, we're here to help. Your sexual health and empowerment are our top priorities.

February 12 is Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Day. It's important to take care of our sexual and reproductive health, which is often neglected. Let's learn about why it's important and how we can stay healthy! 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝙄𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙚𝙨: 💠𝙎𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 (𝙎𝙏𝙄𝙨) 💠𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 💠𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 💠𝙎𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙢𝙨 💠𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙨 💠𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙎𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 💠𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵? Here are some steps that can help: 🔶 𝙆𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 Obtaining knowledge about reproductive health is a significant step toward promoting overall well-being. We recommend speaking with a fertility specialist for a more comprehensive understanding of the subject. 🔶𝙂𝙚𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠𝙪𝙥𝙨 Additionally, regular check-ups with a fertility expert and gynecologist can aid in identifying and preventing potential reproductive health issues. 🔶𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙭 Employing protection during sexual activity is crucial in preventing the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). 🔶𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 It is observed that stress is linked to poor reproductive health, hence it is essential to manage stress through methods such as exercise, meditation, or confiding in a trusted friend or family member. 🔶𝙎𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 Finally, we propose that spreading awareness about the significance of sexual and reproductive health among friends, family, and the community can help promote a healthy and safe environment.

Two pieces of wonderful news to share with you all from the University of Greenwich: I presented an "Articulation of Agreement" for approval, and it's been approved! We hardly run any sexual health courses these days, as there's no NHS CPD money for it. But equally, the gold-standard courses are run by the FSRH President for contraception (we now accept the #DFSRH as equal to 30 credits / level 6), and now, the new name for tariffing is this Articulation! We've just acknowledged 5 courses by BASHH with academic credit equivalence. So, Nurses and Sexual Health Advisors with these course can join relevant programmes at Greenwich and bring in up to 60 credits from BASHH totally free of charge! 1) STIF-Intermediate – 30 credits at Level 6 2) STIF-Advanced – 30 credits at Level 7 3) STIF-NHIVNA Intermediate – 30 credits at Level 6 4) STIF-NHIVNA Advanced – 30 credits at Level 7 5) STIF Health Advising 15 / 6 The second great achievement is getting permission to validate a brand new PGCert in Advanced Forensic Practice - for nurses, paramedics and allied HCPs working in the designated services ("custody", with Police Services, or Sexual Offences Services, e.g. havens / SARCs) Best job in the whole wide world! Building legacy! The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) #UKAFNP
