Today, Sidara’s Peter O'Sullivan CEO of Penspen sat down with BBC’s Rob Young, host of Newsday, to talk about the continent’s enormous potential when it comes to solar energy, and how with effective investment it can play a critical role in generating green hydrogen and ammonia. Türkiye's push towards distributed renewable energy offers a promising blueprint for the future, and I’m happy that The World Bank is part of this important effort. The rise of technologies like rooftop solar and small solar farms is unlocking new opportunities that are transforming power systems across Europe and #CentralAsia. Over the past decade, #Türkiye has tripled its renewable energy production and set an ambitious goal of adding 60GW of wind and solar by 2035, as part of its commitment to become carbon neutral by 2053. A new World Bank-supported program is now helping Türkiye accelerate its distributed solar market—aiming to generate nearly 1GW of solar power, cut emissions, and drive private sector investment. Morocco as the host to this week's World Power-to-X Summit demonstrates the lead role the nation is playing in the clean energy revolution. The event takes place in Marakesh today and tomorrow and brings together 170 global experts, industry leaders, investors and innovators to explore revolutionary solutions in green hydrogen and clean energy. Both Morocco and Xlinks share a vision of addressing climate change through large-scale renewable energy projects that accelerate the transition to Net Zero. The Xlinks Morocco-UK Power Project will be a new electricity generation facility entirely powered by solar and wind energy combined with a battery storage facility. Located in Morocco’s renewable energy rich Province of Tan-Tan, when completed, it will be connected exclusively to Great Britain via 4000km (2485 miles) HVDC sub-sea cables. The country has been a forerunner in the development of large, innovative renewable energy projects worldwide, and has set bold renewable energy targets, aiming for over 52% of its electricity generation from renewable sources by 2030. Many pioneering discussions have emerged from previous events hosted in the this North African region, including the COP22 Climate Conference in 2016. Mr. Dinh Nguyen-Phan, Vice-Chairman of the Green Growth Sector Committee - EuroCham Vietnam Sector Committee and Head of its Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Working Group, shared opinions and valuable insights during the "Change for Green" panel discussion in Solar & Storage Live Vietnam 2024 exhibition.     This was an opportunity to showcase opinions and expectations for the development of renewable energy policy.
