It's The Week of the Young Child! Tasty Tuesday isn’t just about eating your favorite snacks together. It’s also about cooking together 🧑🍳👩🍳 and connecting math with literacy skills and science while introducing ways to incorporate healthy habits into children’s lifestyles. Here's an easy idea to incorporate some learning while walking through the grocery store next time or even at home using the food containers in your kitchen. Look for letters everywhere—on food labels, signs in the store, and magazines on the racks at checkout. Give your child a packaged food item, like a box of cereal. Point out different letters (start with the first letter in your child’s name) on the food item and ask your child to find more of those letters on other foods in the store. #ECEwins #WOYC24 #TastyTuesday #OHSAI #HeadStart #EarlyHeadStart

A huge part of SupplyChange LLC's work is solving values-based institutional procurement. Institutions need pre-fabricated, well-sourced foods. Preps--or pre-cuts that are partially cooked--are an innovation that "solves labor in every kitchen." Eve Cohen of Marcellus Foods is leading the way on this. That's why Marcellus is at the center of the Yolo Food Hub Network and will drive the change we need for CA (and nationwide) foodservice transformation.
I met Danielle Schwab through a colleague / mutual friend in 2020 when we had both thrown ourselves head first into trying to support farmers through the chaos that Covid unleashed in local and regional supply chains. I deeply admire Danielle for her broad food system knowledge and have been loving her weekly newsletter that explores the intersection of food systems change and the joy of everyday cooking. I was SO EXCITED when she invited me to talk about Marcellus Foods in this week's edition. Danielle asked absolutely 🔥 questions that really cut to the heart of what we are building and how we are building. Everything we are building is rooted in the unshakeable belief that everyone deserves to eat exceptional food. And in the understanding that it is possible to live in a world in which everyone has access to exceptional food. Preps truly can change our food system. If this resonates with you, please reach out and let's talk about how to get you involved! This is challenging, beautiful work and it's going to take all of us to do it.
