Yesterday was 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲—a moment to reflect on the vital role science plays in shaping a sustainable future. At SPAROS, our story has always been intertwined with #science. We started as a start-up from Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) of the Universidade do Algarve, driven by a passion for advancing #AquacultureNutrition through solid research. From those early days, our journey has been grounded in a deep connection with academia, collaborating closely with universities and research institutes. This commitment ensures our innovations in fish nutrition are not just effective, but also scientifically sound and impactful. Together with our sister company, Riasearch, we combine strong scientific backgrounds and industrial experience to provide innovative solutions in aquaculture nutrition, health, and immunity. Today, we continue to engage in co-funded projects, support research through grants, and run internal initiatives that help us refine our feeds and services. Our focus remains clear: leveraging science to create practical, effective, and environmentally responsible nutrition solutions for aquaculture. By investing in #research and #innovation, we contribute to a resilient aquaculture sector that respects the environment and benefits future generations. 🌍 ADAPTVitis: Adapting Viticulture to Climate Change 🍇 We are pleased to present the ADAPTVitis project, in which our DTC partner, the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek (FAZOS), is a key partner. Financed by the Interreg IPA CBC Programme Croatia - Serbia, this project addresses the vulnerability of viticulture in Eastern Continental Croatia and Western Serbia to climate change, particularly drought stress. 🌱 Project Overview: ADAPTVitis examines the impact of drought on grapevines, affecting their growth, development, and yield. Researchers will explore new grape varieties with potential for implementation in the cross-border area to improve resilience. 🏛 Centers for Climate Change Prevention: The project will establish two modern centers for monitoring climate conditions and conducting research on drought-resistant grape varieties. These centers will also serve as training hubs for students, researchers, and industry professionals. 🎥 Watch the Video: We invite you to watch our video featuring highlights from the project #DTCNetwork #ADAPTVitis #ClimateChange #Viticulture #Sustainability #Research #Interreg #EUProjects #FAZOS #Innovation

📣Finally, Europe's first aquaponic farm by wastewater has been inaugurated in Castellana Grotte, Italy! ✨This innovative project utilises treated wastewater to cultivate fish and vegetables fit for human consumption. Thanks to the AWARE pilot plant, this project, proposed by INNOVA - Technology Transfer and Valorisation, involves a wide range of national and international partners, bringing together nearly 20 European organisations including universities, companies, non-profit organisations, and alternative institutions. 🏛The Autorità Idrica Pugliese serves as the institutional coordinator. Additionally, Innova, the Autorità Idrica Pugliese , Acquedotto Pugliese SpA, and the Municipality of Castellana Grotte are signatories of the memorandum of understanding. The contribution of Università del Salento, Green in Blue, Aquasoil and all the other partners involved in the AWARE project as well has been fundamental to reach this milestone. ⚕️The water used to irrigate the vegetables and raise the fish comes from the Castellana Grotte wastewater treatment plant, undergoing further purification to make it suitable for this use.The taste and the effect on health of fish and plants that are raised in this type of water will be evaluated by a panel of volunteers. ⚖️There is certainly a significant regulatory barrier that must be addressed to ensure that this type of products meet all the quality standards expected before being used for human consumption. Today, a first big step has been taken along that direction. #aquaponics #aquaculture #circularity #EUresearch #awareponics #inauguration European Research Executive Agency (REA) Universidad Rey Juan Carlos Universidade Católica Portuguesa Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research CSIC Luiss Guido Carli University LabGov ETS European Aquaculture Society Ulster University AIGUANATURA DELS PORTS SL Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) 3CENGINEERING SRL SEMPLIFICATA Universidade do Porto International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Universidad Católica del Maule

Our pilot projects are experimental and time-bound local examples of the HuMUS methodology to implement #participatory governance of #soilhealth issues at municipal and regional levels. These 14 exemplary cases represent good practices of participatory soil health management and analyse and test the replicability of these practices in the home region of each project partner. Using the biological district multi-stakeholder approach, HuMUS stakeholders develop Territorial Management Agreements at the #local or #regional levels. Over time, these will crystallise the results of structured dialogues to co-design #public and #private strategies to improve and restore soil health. For that, the 14 pilot cases organise territorial #workshops throughout 2024. 📋 Check out our brand new webpage introducing each #pilotproject with information on their #project focus, #landuse type, good practices, and their own factsheet! https://lnkd.in/dhYr5XyU Sierra Nevada Junta de Andalucía Altiplano de Granada y Almería Junta de Andalucía Calenzano Anci Toscana Cáceres and Badajoz CTAEX Technological Centre Angers Loire Métropole Chambre d'agriculture Pays de la Loire Ooststellingwerf Louis Bolk Institute Stuttgart City Ernährungsrat Stadtregion Stuttgart EV.
