For nearly 5 years now, I have not only been thinking deeply about how Australia can be a renewable energy superpower …but also how the green energy transition has profound implications for national security and states. It was a fabulous dialogue today for the launch of the first paper in a new AP4D Studies in Statecraft series, ‘Green Energy Statecraft for Comprehensive National Security’, which lays out the opportunities that green energy statecraft presents, as well as the challenges that require navigating. The Report looks at how the green transition and advances a comprehensive security-enhancing agenda. Please do read! Thank you to the panel for some deep insights and dialogue: Professor Elizabeth Thurbon, International Political Economy at UNSW Sydney Dr Alexander M. Hynd, UNSW Sydney's School of Social Sciences Professor Hao Tan, Associate Dean Nottingham University Business School China Professor Susan Park, Professor of Global Governance in International Relations at the University of Sydney Professor Andrew Walter, Professor of International Relations University of Melbourne Thank you Melissa Conley Tyler

#AP4D Advisory Group's Joanne Wallis and Massey University's Anna Powles write in Australian Institute of International Affairs that "the [Australia-#NewZealand] alliance requires reinvigoration, reinvestment, and, perhaps, given escalating tensions in the Indo-Pacific, recalibration". Read their piece at https://lnkd.in/gWAzRfDy. Joanne and Anna will be speaking at the online launch of a special edition of the Australian Journal of International Affairs this afternoon along with David Capie, Darren Lim and Jason Young. Building on her and her colleagues' Green Energy Statecraft paper published by #AP4D and Reimagining the Economy Project, Harvard Kennedy School yesterday, UNSW's Elizabeth Thurbon and Gaw Capital's Oliver Yates outline how a Clean Commodities Trading Company could advance Australia’s green superpower ambitions in The Mandarin. "This is not just an economic opportunity — it’s a pathway to enhanced national security via deeper geostrategic ties and meaningful contributions to global decarbonization efforts." 🔗 Read their piece at https://lnkd.in/gtXptdCi. 📖 Explore the paper 'Green Energy Statecraft for Comprehensive National Security' at https://lnkd.in/gaeCmWMF. 📺 Watch a recording of the launch, featuring authors Elizabeth Thurbon, Alexander M.
