A worldwide first delivered, up & running ! 🥳 Automated drone airport fully integrated in an operational hospital 🏥 Helicus transports human medical samples from Diksmuide clinic to the central hospital lab in Ypres (26 km land route). These were offloaded and delivered deep inside the hospital building in the clinical laboratory via the hospital's pneumatic tube system. Basically, after loading the medical samples in Diksmuide, the clinical samples were delivered without any human intervention. What could be a ride that takes 45 minutes (no certainty), now took 14 minutes (into the hands of the laboratory technician). No non-medical personnel ever even touched the sample container. The key outcome was the laboratory team statement: "We did not notice a difference versus a sample being delivered from within the hospital itself". That is an amazing result ! The ultimate world news: New high tech is seamlessly integrated with existing hardware and software systems without a noticeable impact on the end-user. Congratulations on the succesful integration flights from Delft University of Technology with the DORAI compliant Helicus ground handling integration (Drone Cargo Port / DCP) & operator drone fleet management (Command & Control Center / C2C). Amazing results achieved by an impressive team with support of SAFIR-Ready 👍 Thanks to our launching partners Brussels Airport, droneport.eu, Air Cargo Belgium.
🚁 Another exciting development at droneport.eu! MAVLab from project partner, Delft University of Technology, during their testing campaign at Droneport located in Sint-Truiden, #Belgium, tested the re-align and repositioning feature of the Drone Cargo Port (DCP) developed by Helicus. The test was successfully conducted on the 25-kilogram version of the Rotating Wing drone. 🇪🇺 The SAFIR-Ready project belongs to the SESAR Joint Undertaking program and is funded by the European Commission through #horizoneurope. We invite you to join us for the next presentation, demonstrations and brainstorming on October 15 at 10:00 or 15:00 CET. This time we will explore in more detail the potential of automated drone airports for air cargo and pharmaceutical logistics, as well as on airports. Do have a look at the video (that does not include spoilers 😉) of the last two sessions of 8 October. Executives form all related sectors are coming together to brainstorm together on use cases that can help their industry or where there industry can add components as part of an open integrated modular architecture. See you at DronePort ! Brussels Airport, Air Cargo Belgium, Helicus, droneport.eu

Automatic drone cargo handling airport : Video of first executive launch sessions !! On behalf of Helicus, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our partners, and guests for their support and active involvement. Thanks to your contributions, the first demonstration of our automated drone airport at DronePort in Sint-Truiden became a significant milestone in advancing automated drone logistics. The joint brainstorming showed the potential of automated drone logistics for various industries. We demonstrated how open modular architecture can achieve automated drone cargo handling: Very different drone types share the same automated airport infrastructure. Drones - with a different mix of weight-range-performance characteristics - enable different missions to be fulfilled. These technologies eliminate manual intervention in the logistics chain, making transportation efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective. The demonstrations highlighted how drone technology can address urban logistics challenges such as traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and rising labor costs. By implementing projects like this, society can achieve significant results: increasing the speed and reliability of deliveries, reducing environmental impact through lower transport emissions, and cutting logistics costs. Moreover, the automation of the supply chain enables more flexible and scalable resource management, which is crucial in the fast-changing urban landscape. This opens new opportunities for applying drone logistics in healthcare, industry, and other sectors, enhancing quality of life and contributing to the sustainable development of cities. We invite executives to join us for the next demonstrations on October 15, where we will explore in more detail the potential of automated drone airports for air cargo and pharmaceutical logistics, as well as on on airports. See you at droneport.eu Tuesday 15/10 !

Helicus co-authored scientific paper on "“Interaction between ATM and UAS Operators in U-Space Operations and Automation Potentials” wins the prestigious ICNS Conference Best of Session Award. Authors: Gunnar Schwoch, Joonas Lieb, Mikael Shamim and Geert V.. The paper was accepted and presented at the ICNS Conference in Herndon, VA from April 23 to 25, 2024 by Gunnar Schwoch. This is an important achievement of the longstanding German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Helicus collaboration. Joint development of UTM/ATM-UAS Operator interaction concepts are clearly articulated. These are in line with latest legislative initiatives (SAFIR-Ready ) and represent Drone Operator industry requirements (DORAI). These are also implemented in automated operator Command-and-Control Center products (Helicus). ✈ SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking, EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency, EUROCAE, EUROCONTROL, European Defence Agency, European Commission, FOD Mobiliteit en Vervoer / SPF Mobilité et Transports, Delft University of Technology, Cranfield University, University of Antwerp, KU Leuven, NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre, Royal Military Academy, Belgium, Estonian Aviation Academy
