Learn more about our December highlights in our final e-newsletter of the year: 🎓 We participated in the SKH Education Expo, showcasing our support services for children and young people, providing diverse assistance to students and families, and connecting community resources to empower the next generation. 👵 90-year-old volunteer, Siu A-yi, was honoured as one of the "Hong Kong Spirit Persons 2024". She has volunteered at the Tung Chung Integrated Services for nearly five years, helping many residents adapt to their new homes. 💖 Wong Kwok-ching, a volunteer at the Holy Carpenter Church Community Centre, won the "JC VOLUNTEER TOGETHER Outstanding Rising Star Volunteer Award". She decided to join as a volunteer after participating in a visit to subdivided flat families a year ago. 🎟️ The 2024 charity raffle raised $4 million, funding diverse services and transforming lives. Looking ahead to 2025, we will continue to connect every corner of the community with love and care, working together to bring more hope to society. 【CIIF Forum 2024】Sharing the “Happiness Equation”   Transitional housing can be more than just a temporary roof. The Welfare Council believe it can be a place where residents build happiness and a brighter future. Our CEO, Mrs. Patricia Lau, recently shared our "Happiness Equation" at the CIIF Forum 2024: Housing (Foundation) + Software (Social Services & Community Activities) = Enhanced Happiness.   Our transitional housing project, United Court, utilise eight wellness indicators and diverse support services to holistically address residents' needs, fostering confidence and empowering them. We're proud that former residents have even joined our team, transforming from recipients of support to providers, continuing the cycle of positive impact.   Thank you to the CIIF for the opportunity to share our work. 【Charity Raffle 2024】Lucky Draw and Partnership Recognition Ceremony   The 2024 Charity Raffle has officially concluded, raising over HK$4 million! This incredible achievement wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated partners. 【Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council 2023-24 AGM】   The 2023-24 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Welfare Council was held on December 6th at St. James' Church. We were honoured to have Ms Alice Mak, SBS, JP, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, as our Guest of Honour. The Most Revd Andrew Chan, Honorary Patron of the Welfare Council, The Rt. Revd. Timothy Kwok, the Bishop of Eastern Kowloon, The Rt. Revd. Matthias Clement Tze-wo Der, the Bishop of Hong Kong Island, along with board members, executive committee members, and staff, joined us to review the past year's achievements.   Mrs. Patricia Lau, our CEO, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and acknowledged the hard work and dedication of over 3,000 staff members. 【School-based After School Care Service Scheme】Empowering Grassroots Parents to Rejoin the Workforce   The Welfare Council was recently interviewed by the Information Services Department to share our experience and outcomes from participating in the "School-based After School Care Service Scheme".   Working in partnership with 19 primary schools across Hong Kong, we provide around 650 after-school care places to support grassroots families. By providing after-school care, this scheme gives parents greater flexibility, enabling them to focus on work and reducing daily pressures. Besides homework support, the scheme also offers a range of extracurricular activities to promote pupils' holistic development.   Our survey showed that over 90% of participating grassroots families acknowledged the scheme's positive impact. Some parents have even secured employment after enrolling their children, leading to significant improvements in their family's financial situation.   Partner schools have also expressed strong support for the programme, recognising its benefits for students' development and its contribution to easing the burden on parents. As our CEO, Mrs Patricia Lau, commented, "Schools appreciated that the scheme can indeed alleviate the stress of needy families, allowing parents to find a job and eventually improve the financial burden of the household".   【在校課後託管服務計劃】協助基層家長就業   福利協會早前接受政府新聞處訪問，分享參與「在校課後託管服務計劃」嘅經驗同成果。   福利協會與全港19間小學合作，提供約650個課後託管名額，為基層家庭解決子女放學後嘅照顧問題，讓家長可以更靈活安排時間，專注工作，紓緩生活壓力。除咗功課輔導，協會嘅課後託管計劃亦提供多元化活動，促進學生全面發展。   問卷調查顯示，超過九成基層家庭認同此計劃的成效，甚至有家長在子女參與計劃後找到穩定工作。總幹事劉冼靜儀表示：「學校認同課後託管能提供適切支援，紓緩有需要家庭，尤其單親家庭的困難，令家長可以外出工作。」   Read more: https://lnkd.in/gGRBHcbJ

【GIES 2024】   The Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES 2024) concluded successfully on Sunday after a fantastic four-day run! It was a pleasure connecting with so many industry professionals and sharing our latest advancements in gerontech. We were delighted to welcome Mr. CHUA Hoi Wai, Chief Executive of HKCSS, and Professor Sophia CHAN Siu Chee, from the School of Nursing at the University of Hong Kong, to our booth to learn about our latest applications.   This year, the Welfare Council showcased two innovative applications: "Master Knees 2" and "NeighbourNet". Master Knees 2 integrates AI, gamification, and therapy, featuring a new online competitive mode that enhances engagement and motivation during rehabilitation. NeighbourNet simplifies digital access for seniors with its one-click login feature, enabling them to seamlessly utilise essential platforms like "GCS" and "HCS" to stay informed, participate in activities, and connect with loved ones.   We believe that innovative technology can significantly improve the lives of seniors. We are committed to developing more gerontech products and services to empower and enrich the lives of our elderly community.   【樂齡科技博覽暨高峰會2024】   一連四日嘅樂齡科技博覽暨高峰會（GIES 2024）已經喺星期日圓滿結束喇！好高興可以喺會場同咁多位業界人士交流，分享我哋嘅最新樂齡科技產品。感謝社聯行政總裁蔡海偉先生同香港大學護理學院嘅陳肇始教授蒞臨攤位，了解我哋嘅應用程式同服務。   福利協會今年帶嚟兩個自主研發嘅應用程式：「雙膝掌門人2」同「絡友里」。「雙膝掌門人2」結合人工智能、遊戲同治療，新增嘅線上比拼模式令玩家可以互相較量，增加訓練嘅趣味性，有效提升復康效果。「絡友里」就提供一鍵登入功能，方便長者輕鬆使用「易聯繫」同「智顧家」系統，掌握最新資訊、參與活動同聯繫親友，促進佢哋嘅社交生活。   福利協會相信創新科技可以為長者帶嚟更便利嘅生活，我哋會繼續努力，研發更多樂齡科技產品同服務。

【Honoured to Receive the CLP Community Partnership Award】   Last Saturday, the Welfare Council celebrated Senior Citizen's Day at the CLPV 30th Anniversary and Sharing the Festive Joy Celebration Luncheons and we were so honoured to receive the CLP Community Partnership Award! Huge thanks to CLP for this recognition and for their ongoing support of our work in the community.   The senior members from our community centres had a wonderful time showcasing their upcycled fashion creations on the runway, alongside CLP volunteers. It was truly inspiring to see their energy and enthusiasm.   We firmly believe that by working together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. 【The Importance of Me-Time for Carers】80% of carers experiencing high levels of stress   Last Friday, we shared findings from our latest survey on carer self-care ("Me-time") and explored solutions for supporting this vital community.   The survey revealed that more than 80% of carer respondents experience high levels of stress, and the amount of Me-time they have is closely correlated with their stress levels. Carer Kitman shared her personal journey of reclaiming Me-time through social service support, highlighting its positive impact on both her well-being and her relationship with mother.   We sincerely thank Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group for their generous support of our carer initiatives, and we extend our gratitude to Ms. May Lau for joining us at the event.
