Youth4Jobs & Eaton Pune: Empowering Inclusion Through Indian Sign Language Youth4Jobs, in collaboration with Eaton Pune, conducted Indian Sign Language (ISL) Beginners Workshops to foster workplace inclusion for persons with speech and hearing impairments. Over 30 Eaton employees participated, gaining practical skills to bridge communication gaps and promote accessibility. Why It Matters: 2.1% of India’s population has speech and hearing impairments, but workplace accessibility remains limited. Inclusive workplaces enhance employee satisfaction, productivity, and organizational growth. Workshop Highlights: Participants learned ISL basics, explored communication challenges, and engaged in hands-on activities to build empathy and understanding. Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), we embrace this year’s theme: "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future." Did you know that 1 in 6 of us experience significant disability? Yet, persons with disabilities remain some of the most excluded individuals in the world. Changing this reality demands collective empathy, and a commitment to empowering their leadership and agency. Empowering individuals with disabilities to lead the way toward a more equitable world starts with one crucial element: accessibility. It’s not just a feature; it’s the foundation of independence and inclusion. Uday Chintagunta, lead of Smart Inclusion Center project at Youth4Jobs, says: “Accessibility is the cornerstone of independence—whether through ramps and elevators enabling physical independence, assistive technologies offering technical freedom, inclusive transport systems ensuring mobility, or workplaces fostering opportunity and balance.
