The CIE Department is excited to announce that Dr. Md Shafiullah received the “Early Career Research Award 2024,” one of the prestigious awards at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Saudi Arabia. For the last couple of years, he has been working in Renewable Energy Grid Integration, Intelligent Energy Systems, Control and Optimization of Energy Systems, Microgrids Energy Management, Power Systems Stability, and the Innovative Application of Evolutionary Algorithms and Machine Learning Techniques in the Energy Sector. Dr. Shafiullah is grateful to his colleagues, mentors, and students, who supported and inspired him throughout this journey. He expressed his heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude to Dr. Mujahed Al-Dhaifallah, Dr. Atif Alzahrani, and Dr. Mohamed Abido, whose leadership and vision were instrumental in the achievement. We are pleased to announce that the students of CIE-438 Instrumentation for Process Control from the Control and Instrumentation Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Saudi Arabia, recently had the opportunity to visit the Measurement Standards Laboratory at the Applied Research Center for Metrology, Standards & Testing, Research Institute, KFUPM. During the visit, Dr. Muhammad Majid Gulzar supervised the Students as they were guided through the Measurement Standards Laboratory. The primary objective of the visit was to offer the students a comprehensive understanding of the content covered in the CIE-438 Instrumentation for Process Control course. Through practical demonstrations and explanations, the students gained valuable insights into the theoretical concepts taught in the course, enhancing their understanding and application of instrumentation principles in real-world settings. The CIE Chairman, Dr. Mujahed Al-Dhaifallah, expressed his gratitude towards the IRC for Sustainable Energy Systems at the Research Institute (RI), KFUPM for hosting the Department delegation on 29 February 2024.   The IRC-SES Director, Dr. Atif Alzahrani, welcomed the CIE Team and presented center activities and research collaboration and student engagement opportunities between the center and the department. Then, the IRC-SES researchers, Dr. Dr. Amir Al-Ahmed, FRSC, Dr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Dr. Binash Imteyaz, PhD, CEM, and Engr. Youssef Awda facilitated a tour of various laboratories (energy auditing, solar PV, power systems, etc.) in the center and demonstrated their ongoing and completed projects.   The mission of the IRC-SES is to accelerate the development of innovative, sustainable, and energy-efficient solutions, policies, and programs with social, environmental, and economic impacts that contribute to the objectives of SAUDI VISION 2030. The center aims to develop technologies to ensure stable power supplies with bulk integration of renewable energy resources, manage energy systems components smartly and efficiently by incorporating IR 4.0 solutions, and enable renewable energy technologies for clean energy transition. The CIE Chairman, Dr. Mujahed Al-Dhaifallah, led the department visit to the Applied Research Center for Metrology, Standards, and Testing (ARC-MST: https://lnkd.in/dvuhK5BQ) at the Research Institue (RI) on 7 March 2024. The primary objectives of the tour were to explore their facilities, find collaboration potentials, and discover student engagement possibilities. The CIE Team was comprised of Dr. Muhammad Faizan Mysorewala, PhD, Dr. sarvat Ahmad, Dr. Adnan shakoor, Dr. Ali Nasir, Dr. Md Shafiullah, Dr. Dr. Muhammad Majid Gulzar, and Dr. Syed Muhammad Amrr.   The CIE Team visited the facilities under the Measurements & Standards Group (MSG) and High Voltage Group (HVG). The MSG is one of the leading engineering research and specialized testing and consulting services providers in the region that offers high-quality services in metrology, high voltage testing, testing and evaluation of civil engineering materials and facilities, and multiphase flow to the local industry, government, and private organizations. On the other hand, the HVG conducts electrical insulator performance studies, power system studies, equipment failure evaluation studies, etc.   The CIE Department thanked the ARC-MST Director, Dr. luai Alhems (KFUPM), Senior Metrologist Engr. Mohammed Abbas, Engr. Khaled Al-Soufi, Engr. Faheem Mohammad and other center personnel for facilitating the tour and describing various research supports and opportunities.
