Last month, we had an inspiring Power Day with the dedicated Wavestone Singapore team, whose genuine engagement showed how businesses can create real impact through community involvement. ♻ Partnering with organisations like Wavestone under our CSR/Employee Engagement business pillar demonstrates how much can be achieved when business meets purpose. We’re excited for more partnerships that drive sustainable change together! 🌱💪 #FoodWasteReduction #CorporateImpact #CommunityAction #BetterTogether
Last week, the Wavestone Singapore team held its annual Power Day. While this event is usually coordinated globally on the same day across all Wavestone offices, this year we took a different approach. With our growing team and the challenge of multiple time zones, each office chose its own convenient date, keeping a shared goal in mind: selecting an organization that makes a positive impact in our communities. This year, we partnered with D2L.sg, an organization tackling food waste in Singapore. Not only do they work to reduce waste, but they also prepare large quantities of food and drink, which are then distributed to other charitable organizations or directly to low-income individuals. Before jumping into the work of packing and transporting supplies, we received some eye-opening insights from D2L.sg ambassadors. A few facts that stuck with me: 💚 Food waste significantly contributes to greenhouse gases – ironic, since it’s one of the easiest types of waste to reduce 🥗 In Singapore, "expiration" or "best before" dates don’t necessarily mean the food is unsafe to eat 🙈 If a food item is past its date, the best test is to use sight, smell, and taste before deciding to toss it. In many cases, people are disposing of food that is still safe to consume 💥 There is a 5-step Food Recovery Hierarchy (pictured) one can refer to when making this decision D2L.sg also introduced us to the GoodHood.SG app, which allows users to list surplus food for others in need in the country, ensuring that excess food can make a real difference in someone’s day. After hours of loading drinks and food onto buses, we transformed our Singapore office into a temporary distribution center, welcoming guests to claim the items they had reserved through our listings – all at no cost. Special shoutout to the Wavestone organizing team of Helena B. Paul Blackler Low Wan Wen Ellen Soedirman Grace Chin Lola Li for pulling off a rigorous but rewarding activity!
