Yesterday, we hosted an exclusive breakfast event bringing together senior marketing and sustainability leaders to explore how collaboration can drive growth while advancing their organisations’ sustainable transition. Our Associate Director, Sean Farrance-White led a discussion alongside a panel of sustainability and marketing experts: William Ray from CLS Holdings plc, Tracey Groves from DWF, Simon Badman from World Wide Generation and Stephanie Gomez from Gensler. Together, our panel discussed how a strong partnership between the CMO and CSO is a critical success factor for forward-thinking businesses today. They explored how to break down silos, unlock growth opportunities, and foster mutual support between these roles to build a more sustainable and profitable future. Here are some of the key takeaways from the session: 💡 Have a healthy debate: Marketing leaders have much to learn from sustainability leaders. And vice versa. A vigorous debate about how you talk about your sustainability credentials externally will make them more compelling. 💡 Data is your north star: But it's not everything. Telling a story that weaves it together is where you have the most impact. 💡Sustainability belongs in the C-suite: CSOs must have a seat at the table, and sustainability and ESG goals should be woven into every role in the boardroom. 💡There is no such thing as an ESG or Sustainability strategy – this should be your business strategy. 💡Start with the 'why': Anchor your marketing efforts in purpose. 💡If it feels easy, you're not doing it right: The sustainable transition is challenging—embrace it. Thank you to all our panellists and everyone who attended. Watch this space for the next edition of our Thought Makers event series. We're proud that The Sustainable Cities Index 2024 by Arcadis and Man Bites Dog is shortlisted for Best International Campaign in the CorpComms Magazine Awards 2024. Our decade-long campaign first propelled the specialist topic of urban sustainability onto the mainstream news and business agenda in 2015. This year, with less than 2,000 days remaining before the 2030 deadline of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Arcadis and Man Bites Dog have reimagined the Index to focus on a core measure of sustainability: Progress. The latest report is the most groundbreaking yet. Our team will be attending the CorpComms Awards ceremony this Thursday in London.
