#IndustrialSectors are significant contributors to #GlobalEnergyConsumption and #emissions, especially for heating needs. #Industrialheataccounts for nearly 25% of the total global energy consumption. Today, an estimated 90% of that #industrialheat comes from fossil fuels and around a third to heat processes below 200 °C. #Industrialelectrification provides the most efficient technological route to #cleanprocess heating. Several emerging technologies are available today to enable clean process heating and deal efficiently with waste heat: industrial heat pumps, electric resistance heating technologies (e.g. electric boilers), and thermal energy storage solutions, among others. The International Energy Agency (#IEA) points out that high-temperature heat pumps can drastically reduce emissions across various industries, such as food processing and textiles as there is more reliance on renewable electricity, the carbon impact of heat pumps continues to improve and so the economical benefits as gas prices rise. We will uncover the #LatestTechnologicalAdvances in this technology: high-temperature heat pumps, which achieve temperatures over 200°C, making them suitable for a broad range of processes and industries. We will also discuss the main limitations of this technology compared to other power-to-heat (P2H) technologies, and the common barriers to adoption.
