📣 #ESDALAB participates in the Global Summit on Renewable and Sustainable Energy (#GSERSE2024), organized, on 📆 November 28 – 29, in 📍Porto (Portugal) by the United Research Forum . 🗣 The Deputy Head of the Lab, associate professor Christos Antonopoulos has been invited as a keynote speaker to the conference which deals with 📌 Innovative Breakthroughs in Renewable Energy from Concept to Implementation. 💡 In his speech entitled 📌 “Trends in Digital Twin Framework Architectures for Smart Cities: A Case Study in Smart Mobility”, Dr. Christos Antonopoulos will present concepts and outcomes from the project MetaCities Excellence Hub in South-Eastern Europe, as well as some challenges that are related to the use of digital twins, metaverse technology, AI and big data. Emphasis will be put on smart and safe mobility use cases in Patras (Greece) and especially: ✅ Smart parking ✅ Emergency management ✅ Environmental behavior analysis on traffic incidents

MetaCities Excellence Hub in South-Eastern Europe was proudly represented at the 2024 Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona by our partners ICT Cluster and Southeast Digital Innovation Hub! This global gathering brought together over 25,000 attendees and hundreds of exhibitors, all committed to advancing smart, connected urban environments. Our booth was organised by Anna Naydenova from the ICT Cluster and Stoyan Nikolov from the Southeast Digital Innovation Hub. Together, they showcased METACITIES’ innovative vision, focusing on Digital Twin and metaverse technologies that are redefining how cities evolve and function. The discussions highlighted our project’s key activities and future ambitions to create smarter, more resilient cities through cutting-edge digital solutions. 💫 Highlights from Metacities at 5G Techritory! METACITIES played a key role at 5G Techritory 2024! Highlights include presentations on smart cities and digital twins, an XR demo, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with leading European partners. ✨ From Smart Cities to Metacities Co-Creation Event: As part of the co-creation event facilitated by Marios Nicolaou (p-NET Emerging Networks & Vertical Applications), METACITIES presented its Excellence Hub for South Eastern Europe, featuring contributions from: the University of Patras, ISBUR, CYENS Centre of Excellence, and the University of Peloponnese. The event wrapped up with an interactive session on the future of the European Metacities Partnership. 🎮 XR Panel & Demonstration: Partners from p-NET Emerging Networks & Vertical Applications (Marios Nicolaou) and the University of Patras (Prof. Spyros Denazis) participated in a panel on Immersive XR Technologies and Digital Twins. The p-NET team engaged audiences with an XR demonstration throughout the event, offering attendees a firsthand look at the transformative potential of these technologies for smart cities. 🤝 MoU Signed! 🎯 #ESDALAB was present at the 5G Techritory Conference in 📍 Riga (Latvia) on 📆 October 30th, on behalf of the Greek ecosystem of MetaCities Excellence Hub in South-Eastern Europe. 🗣 The Deputy Head of the Laboratory, associate professor Christos Antonopoulos , gave an insightful overview of the designed Greek pilot on #smartmobility in the city of Patras, in the context of the workshop entitled 📌 “From Smart Cities to Metacities”. 💡 Among other experts, NCPs and representatives of Metacity North Europe, of the Bulgarian, Cypriot and Italian ecosystem and speakers presenting “hot” topics on #digitaltwins and #5G for metacities, prof. Antonopoulos not only highlighted the exploitation of IoT and communication technologies for the Greek case, thanks to the collaboration of ESDA LAB with 7 Greek partners, but also contributed significantly as facilitator to the co-creation event at the same workshop aiming at the exchange of ideas for collaboration and interconnection of metacities projects across Europe and particularly on the possible working model of such a collaboration 🆙 🔜 More details on this fruitful event opening up a more connected way forward will be shared soon.
