Will AI affect rankings? We’ll look for the answers at IREG 2024 in Bucharest. Artificial intelligence has entered higher education for good; it will most likely affect university rankings, too. Therefore, IREG Observatory cordially invite you to come to Bucharest, the charming capital of Romania, to join experts, rankers, and university managers figuring out what AI can do to research, teaching and to rankings. IREG conferences for 20 years have been a unique, neutral forum for learning and discussing university rankings in the context of quality in higher education; a forum where universities can express their opinions in front of rankers and best international HE experts. IREG 2024: “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Altering Higher Education and Rankings”, Bucharest, November 7-8, is organized by IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence and hosted by SNSPA National University of Political Studies and Public Administration in Bucharest. Elsevier is conference’s partner. Program and registration: https://lnkd.in/dJbeR2gY See you in Bucharest!

Enlight - Together, brilliant new ideas can be turned in meaningful realisations. I was lucky to participate with Frauke Cuelenaere (Faculty Education Services of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (Ghent University)) in an intensive work trip to the University of Tartu. Since 'internationalisation' is a strategic component of the educational approach of UGent (Ghent University), we explored opportunities to further invest in international cooperation with our Enlight-partner. Based on the Faculty's existing cooperation in a double degree (Master of arts in in Quantitative Economics) and an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Economics of Globalisation and European Integration, we gladly concluded that to the mutal benefit of our students innovative, small-scale initiatives can build 'stepping stones' to internationalisation...from easily accessible international experiences to more challenging international and intercultural immersions. Within Enlight, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (Ghent University), grasps 'internationalisation' as a necessary key to answer societal needs. For students, international/intercultural awareness brings insightful perspectives and a sense of 'global citizenship'. The visit's second pillar concerned 'future-proof education'. Apart from online learning, lifelong leaning and flexible curricula, 'AI in education' was talk of the town during the visit to the University of Tartu. That the impact of Generative AI on (writing) competences is a hot topic, leaving no partner in higher education indifferent, was quite clear during the enlightning debate (with stakeholders of Tartu University and Ghent University) on the fate of the 'master's thesis' in an era of AI. The topic was covered by Ilse De Bourdeaudhuij (Director of Education, Ghent University), Bertel D. (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Member Education Quality Board, Ghent University), Ilona Tragel, Helen Hint, Kristjan-Julius Laak, Marten Juurik and Annemarie (Mit) Leuridan (information on the roundtable: https://lnkd.in/erj3d_D4). Definitely to be continued...since the evolution of AI and (the speed of) its impact on 'higher education' and evaluation and acquisition of competencies is breathtaking and brings food for 'fundamental' thought ! Thumbs up and thanks to all - in Ghent and in Tartu - who made this exchange possible, especially Aune Valk, Ilse De Bourdeaudhuij, Judith Goris, Thibault Hoogstoel, Ülle Tensing and many others.
👉 Happy 😊 but tired faces upon the successful conclusion of the return visit by UGent at University of Tartu to forge new cooperations and to exchange on 🎓 Future-proof education 🎓 : from online learning, over flexible curricula and lifelong learning, to AI in education ... Kudos to host University of Tartu for the warm welcome! Today 📅 both UGent and University of Tartu education experts hosted a hybrid roundtable on the subject 'What Role Does Thesis Writing Play in the AI Era'. Read more on https://lnkd.in/erj3d_D4. Welcome to the Max Planck Symposium 2024, keynote speaker 👨💻 Henri M Deda! 🎤 Building AI apps for responsible use in science and education. 📑 The idea for #scienceOS was born from the urge to accelerate research by helping scientists tackle global challenges using AI-enhanced research tools. In this talk, we will discuss our experiences about building easy-to-use #AI solutions for people in #research and higher education coming from different research fields and ranging from bachelor students to senior researchers in #industry and #academia. We will review case studies, including an ongoing collaboration with teaching and psychology scientists and students from the University of Tübingen, to illustrate the challenges researchers and students aim to address with AI and what they expect from it. From what we have learned, we believe that with supportive AI, we may help tear down barriers that hinder people from becoming scientists and support active researchers likewise. 📢 Registration OPEN for the 9th Max Planck Symposium for Alumni and Early Career Researchers (27.-28.6.2024, Harnack House Berlin) 💡 In the light of global crises, education and educational equality continues to be at risk – at the same time, education and learning is undergoing drastic changes due to the rise of AI and digital tools. We will discuss “The future of education around the world” and careers therein in the course of keynotes, workshops, focus talks, fireside chats and of course fun evening activities. 📆 We're excited to present all speakers and their topics within the next week, here on LinkedIn. Watch out for topics that spark your interest and register if you are a Max Planck Alumnus/Alumna or an active Max Planck Early Career Researcher (master/doctoral student, postdoc, group leader etc) -- the conference is free of charge and we still have very few travel stipends available for alumn*ae. www.mpg.de/symposium2024 #education #educationalequality #educationai #career #future #ethics #maxplanckalumni #maxplanckearlycareerresearchers
