🌏 What does it take to create sustainable impact through entrepreneurship? A recent event hosted by the Asia Community Foundation and featuring Peter Wuffli from elea, Zhihan Lee from BagoSphere, and Shuvavish Bhowmick from ATEC Global highlighted key strategies for building and supporting sustainable impact through entrepreneurship: ⏳ Long-Term Impact Requires Patient Capital: For businesses aimed at tackling issues like absolute poverty, especially in challenging sectors such as farming and micro-retail, patient capital is crucial. Investments need time to yield results, and setting realistic expectations on returns helps ensure long-lasting impact. 👤 Investing in People, Not Just Ideas: The value of a business starts with the people behind it. Thorough due diligence and building trust with entrepreneurs are essential for de-risking and aligning on goals. Ultimately, it is about supporting individuals who have both the passion and resilience to make a difference. 📊 Sustainable Business Models Are Key to Scaling: Achieving scalable impact requires financially sustainable models. Businesses in the impact space are increasingly focusing on financial viability, as it is the foundation for growing and amplifying their influence over time. It is inspiring to see how investing in the right people and providing the right kind of capital can drive change. 🌱 ➡️ Read more about how Asia Community Foundation's Impact Funds are driving sustainable impact across some of Southeast Asia's most pressing issues here: https://lnkd.in/gWqCCHHf #impactinvesting #impactentrepreneurship #patientcapital 📸: Asia Community Foundation

When I started my journey in the social impact space, I never imagined how crucial defining our approach would become. Over 2 decades of building and supporting social enterprises, I've come to realize something fundamental: we need a shared language to truly unite our efforts. Drawing from my experiences at nasscom foundation and beyond, I've developed a simple framework to clarify the 3 main pathways to social change: 1. Social Innovation: It's all about the IDEA. Not just any new concept, but one that creates measurable change and outperforms existing solutions. The value here primarily benefits society, not individuals or businesses. 2. Social Enterprise: This focuses on the BUSINESS MODEL. It's about building sustainable, market-based approaches with a double bottom line - maximizing both social and financial returns. 3. Social Entrepreneurship: The heart of this is MINDSET. It's about being a relentless change agent, crafting bold solutions whether you're starting something new or innovating within existing structures. What truly unites us in this sector is our shared belief that social change is essential for creating a society where everyone can thrive. From our Social Innovation for Youth programs to initiatives like जनCARE deploying health-tech startups, we're constantly exploring how these 3 approaches can intersect and amplify each other. How can we collectively move towards standardizing our social sector terminology? #socialimpact #socialinnovation #collectiveprogress

In today's rapidly evolving world, young entrepreneurs are emerging as key players in driving positive change on a global scale. With their innovative ideas, unwavering determination, and a strong sense of social responsibility, these enterprising individuals are reshaping industries, challenging traditional norms, and addressing pressing issues facing humanity. Their endeavors not only contribute to economic growth but also foster sustainable development and social impact. One of those young entrepreneurs is Una Karabeg. Her most remarkable characteristic is her ability to think outside the box. Una and the other young entrepreneurs who attended #BudapestBalkanYouthForum and #BudapestBalkanForum2024 are leveraging technology to create scalable and impactful solutions. With the advent of digitalization and the internet, they have access to a vast array of tools and resources that enable them to reach markets beyond borders and connect with like-minded individuals and organizations. They are increasingly prioritizing social and environmental sustainability in their business practices. They recognize the interconnectedness of economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and social well-being. Through initiatives such as sustainable sourcing, ethical production, and community engagement, they are demonstrating that profitability and social responsibility can go hand in hand. Another significant aspect of young entrepreneurship is its emphasis on collaboration and partnership. Recognizing that no single entity can solve complex global challenges alone, young entrepreneurs are actively seeking collaborations with governments, NGOs, academia, and other stakeholders. By forging partnerships based on shared goals and mutual respect, they are amplifying their impact and catalyzing systemic change. Those young entrepreneurs are at the forefront of driving global change. Through their creativity, resilience, and commitment to making a difference, they are inspiring a new generation of change-makers and shaping a brighter future for all. As we navigate the complex challenges of the 21st century, let us continue to support and empower young entrepreneurs in their quest to build a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous world. I just had the pleasure of diving into the German Social Entrepreneurship Monitor 2024. Here are some of my key takeaways on impact management and measurement I’m excited to share: A solid 62% of the social enterprises are already measuring their impact, which is fantastic! Tools like IOOI, the theory of change or PHINEO gAG's Impact Ladder are frequently named as the base of their efforts. 86% use their impact measurement to verify their mission, and 71% even make strategic decisions based on it. However, many still face challenges like a lack of knowledge (35%), high complexity (32%), and unreliable data (31%). This shows just how powerful and essential adequate resource-efficient tools are for driving change! Financial resources are a significant barrier. On average, social enterprises spend 10% of their annual budget on impact measurement, and high costs deter 14% from pursuing it further. The biggest hurdles are financial resources for data collection (50%) and finding suitable indicators (48%). Now can we as the support ecosystem do to better support them? - More Training: There’s a clear need for more training programs to help enterprises get the skills they need. - Better Tools: Simplifying existing tools and making them more accessible can help overcome complexity and costs. - Increased Funding: Allocating more resources towards impact measurement can make a huge difference. ➡️ Give them the money! 💸💸😉 Kudos and a huge applause to the Social Entrepreneurship Netzwerk Deutschland e.V. and Euclid Network (EN) for this report, especially to the authors Sophia Kiefl, Katharina Scharpe, Arian Ajiri, Jessamine Davis, Liana Heinrich, and Martha Olivia Marik, and to the scientific advisory board of Prof. Matthias Raith and Malte Bau from Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg! Your work is driving the social entrepreneurship sector forward. 🎉 Read more about Germany's social enterprises in the monitor itself: https://lnkd.in/e6hTTFnm #SocEnt #GemeinsamWirken #ImpactMeasurement #DSEM2024
