Netflix has announced a new future which could completely change the way we discuss our favorite shows. With the new moments feature, fans will be able to easily share their favorite scenes from film and television offerings on Netflix. The feature integrates with mobile devices to allow viewers to share moments with their friends or to social media with a few quick button presses. As Netflix continues to try to stay ahead of other streamers by improving this platform, this is an interesting move. Streamers and content owners have long sought to prevent screen recording and screenshots on their platforms, and this new feature is a major swing in the opposite direction. Despite that, one can easily see why Netflix added the feature. With social media being a major tool for drawing attention to their content, this feature could create a surge of user-generated free promotion for their titles. As other streamers look to close the gap between their platforms and Netflix in terms of subscribers and viewership, it'd come as little surprise if they attempted to mimic this move. This also serves as a way to combat the ease of sharing on internet platforms like YouTube, which continue to compete with streamers for viewership from younger audiences. I'll be interested to see what Netflix show will be next to have its viral moment on social media, with sharing clips now made easier than ever. Colin Connolly Esquire Group Inc.

This is such a brilliant move by Netflix. Meme'ification of their content to create shared moments between people. Taking one of the more solitary experiences watching TV (in small groups or alone) and making it a much more social one. This is how you make your product super sticky, you reinforce it with the community and feed social media channels with it. The film industry has long been a major source of meme content, Netflix is just platforming it and making it extremely easy for anyone to share. Just so smart. #FutureOfTV #Netflix https://lnkd.in/gPufpFuu

What are your thoughts on this upcoming Netflix redesign that is being tested? My two-cents? As a user and in my professional opinion (fueled by personal bias and no research), not having My List prominent is a hindrance. There is so much content available and it is often difficult to decide to watch. Have you ever been stuck browsing for 20-plus minutes? Or find a lot of options that you are not in the mood for but save for later? Having a curated list saves time, energy, and frustration for users in the future. https://lnkd.in/dSwZQ5kW

Netflix just launched something that could evolve into a must-have feature for streamers: "Moments" is a simple feature that allows a user to set a bookmark inside a show. This allows you to easily find your favourite scenes again later. Crucially, the Moment can also be shared as a url with other people. If they are also Netflix subscribers, they can go straight to the bookmarked scene in their own Netflix service. I imagine this feature will be popular on social media as fans share and celebrate iconic scenes. And it's only a few more iterations from being a powerful referral engine for new users. What if the bookmark created a 20-second clip that could be sent to anyone, Netflix subscriber or not? If the tech and content rights could be sorted out, a new peer-to-peer acquisition channel could be developed in this way. I really like this feature - anything that can make the sign-up journey more organic is a good thing. What do you clever people out there think? Kudos to Henrik Karlberg for the article.

📢 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗳𝗹𝗶𝘅 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 "𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀", 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝙄𝙩'𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙. I used to scroll through YouTube, typing in things like “that one epic scene from…” or “funniest part of…” just to rewatch my favourite moments. You too? Take Wednesday Addam's iconic dance, for instance. Or when Professor and Berlin sang "Bella Ciao" in Money Heist – a scene that won everyone's heart ❤️ But the constant searching and rewinding was such a hassle – and Netflix just fixed that. With Moments, Netflix now lets us save, share, and keep our favourite scenes right within the app! It's always the lucky iOS users but I guess patience really is a virtue… can’t wait to get my hands on it! 😅 - 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 "𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀": ↳ To save a scene, select “Moments” at the bottom of the screen. It will then be stored in your “My Netflix” tab for later viewing. ↳ If you restart the episode, it will begin to start playing right from the scene that you bookmarked! 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘺-𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘺. - 🤩 Netflix also launched their "𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗦𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱" campaign to hype this up, and it’s worth checking out! Gotta love the creative community - this is revolutionary and will trigger greater innovation - Netflix is rolling out its new “Moments” feature—a scene-sharing system that allows ad-free subscribers to bookmark and share specific moments from any show or movie in their vast library, whether it's Netflix original content or licensed titles. The feature creates precise timestamps that direct other Netflix members to exact scenes through social media platforms and messaging apps. When viewers discover a scene they want to share—whether it's Wednesday Addams' viral dance or a pivotal plot twist in ‘Stranger Things’—they can now do so officially and seamlessly within the Netflix ecosystem. The bigger picture: The timing is telling. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ recently demonstrated the explosive potential of social clip-sharing, with fans flooding TikTok and other platforms with key scenes that helped drive the film toward record-breaking box office numbers. While that sharing wasn't officially sanctioned, it revealed a clear appetite for bite-sized, shareable content from premium entertainment.

There was some really interesting news from Netflix this week. Just as the platform shutters its AAA gaming studio, it's launching a new feature focused on people talking and sharing. Moments, which is now available on iOS, lets users quickly save and share favorite scenes from any series or movie, and I think that's huge for social media. Before this, you (and me) likely found yourself fumbling to describe the epic plot twist or funny exchange. Now, with moments, that exact clip can be shared across social media, and followers can click on the shared post and go straight to that scene. I can't understate how huge this is, especially considering content piracy and IP laws. While working for Netflix as a vendor, I've learned that they have a unique and refreshing view on publicity, and this move feels like a home run. Netflix added 5.1 million subscribers in Q3 2024, for a total of 282 million. However, the growth is showing signs of plateauing, as 8 million users were added in the previous quarter. My interpretation is that Moments is Netflix's play to boost engagement and bring in new viewers in a very competitive and challenging streaming market. I love it!

Netflix Had a Password-Sharing Problem. Greg Peters Fixed It So Digiturk beIN MEDIA GROUP can do it! For illegal Live streaming sites. Yousef Al-Obaidly Netflix s password sharing crackdown has been a huge success. It helped add ~30m paying users in 2023 (2nd highest year ever). Bloomberg has details on the rollout: ▫️Netflix built a model to differentiate a single user travelling or one person sharing with lots of people ▫️Tested two methods to shake freeloaders: 1) pay per household (Reed Hasting’s plan); or 2) an account could add new users for an additional fee (new Co-CEO Greg Peter’s plan) ▫️Ran A/B test in Latin America, where password sharing was “most widespread” (they found Peter’s method #2 “based on users” led to more upgrades) https://lnkd.in/eQ8-nAJ7

On The Netflix Dream In February 2021, Netflix launched a new feature called “Downloads for You”. On the day of its announcement, they wrote, “we’re excited to introduce a new feature that automatically downloads recommended TV shows and movies to your mobile device based on your tastes. Once enabled, Downloads for You will download content you’ll love, *without you needing to do a thing. Never be without entertainment, even when you’re offline.*" Merriem Webster defines entertainment as: "something diverting or engaging." Netflix’s aim, apparently, is to ensure that your whole life is filled with entertainment, with diversion from your main goals in life, diversion from the reality of the day your ankles will be put together under a shroud, diversion from your CGPA that is on life support, diversion from your Lord. Netflix's aim is to make it easier and easier for you to access entertainment (diversion from things that will benefit you), “without needing to do a thing”. Judge for yourself, is that a reasonable life? Is that the kind of life you want to live? Please pause and read Quran chaper 102 now. Ponder on its meaning. Read and re-read like 4 times. Ponder on the first and last verses. LRH Sayf Network

Netflix Had a Password-Sharing Problem. Greg Peters Fixed It however should investors truly expect the long term gains in subscriber count? Are there markets left for them to take on? The answer is yes, however how successful will Netflix be in converting them to longterm subscribers is questionable. Many of those markets are in the emerging economies, which have relatively relaxed legislations around the intellectual property. Can Netflix become a next TV provider for those emerging economies? Very uncertain. Therefore, what are the future gains that investors are hoping for? what assumptions are behind the new price targets? These 2 questions needs to be answer with a very careful delegation as the Netflix matures with its subscriber count in the Western countries. https://lnkd.in/dHD48htx

Confirmation and straight off the Dailies today: (although they are saying it’s all for the interest of the audience, it’s a lot cheaper but that is going to change I guarantee, I’ve worked with international companies and although it is more expensive, supplies, unions etc, it is going to change for international crews you already see some of the complaints online: 🎬🌍Netflix's Global Gamble: Netflix is earmarking a staggering $7.9B of its $15.4B budget for productions outside of North America. This shift not only marks the first time the streaming giant invests more in international content than in its domestic market but also points to a broader industry pivot towards embracing a global TV landscape. With the decline of the so-called peak TV era, companies are exploring new territories to captivate audiences worldwide. This shift is happening as the TV industry starts to move away from the overflow of shows we've had in recent years, focusing more on content that can reach global audiences. Reasons? Making shows outside the U.S. can be cheaper, and American audiences are getting more into shows from other countries (think shows like ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Money Heist’). Plus, with the U.S. market for streaming services getting pretty crowded, Netflix sees a chance to grow by getting more subscribers from other parts of the world. It's a smart move that could lead to a lot more interesting and diverse shows for everyone to watch
