This International Men’s Day we're raising awareness for men’s health through the Movember movement. Movember is an annual event focused on highlighting men's mental and physical health. At Piedmont, we support our team member's health and prioritize their well-being on the ground and in the skies. ✈️

Movember's here, and it's more than just a mustache! This month, let's focus on men's health—both mental and physical. From growing that ‘stache to raising awareness, small actions can make a big impact. 💙 #Movember#MensHealth#MentalHealthMatters#Movember2024
It’s International Men’s Day 💙
This day is dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness of the contribution that men and boys make to their communities. It is also a part of Movember, Men’s Health Awareness Month.
Our aim of sharing these awareness posts is to try to foster a connection between us and you, you and your colleagues or friends and family, us and the rest of the world. We want to encourage and establish safe spaces in our society where support is given to those who are struggling, and everyone’s voice is heard equally.
Are there any men in your life who you can show your gratitude for today? A simple message to check in with how they’re doing, or a ‘thank you for...’, can go a long way in making them feel seen and valued.
We can all do our bit in making today a safer space to be vulnerable, authentic and comfortable in ourselves.

You have the strength within you to overcome any challenge. Remember, reaching out for support is a sign of courage, not weakness. By sharing your journey, you inspire others to do the same, fostering a community of empathy and understanding. Together, we can dismantle the barriers surrounding #mentalhealth and promote a world where everyone feels seen and supported. #EndTheStigma#YouAreNotAlone#MentalHealthMatters
Around this time last year, I lost a friend of nearly 10 years to suicide. He was one of the kindest and seemingly happiest people I knew. His loss was a painful reminder that we often don’t see the silent struggles others may be facing. So please, reach out to the people in your life. A small gesture, a simple check-in, or a few kind words can make an immense difference. You never know who might need it most.
Since losing my friend, I’ve realized that many others have similar stories—stories of loved ones gone too soon and suffering in silence. In Sweden alone two-thirds of those who died by suicide were men. Of the 1,328 people lost their lives to confirmed suicide in 2023, 943 were men, 385 women, and 10 were children under the age of 15 (Nordiskt samarbete, 2024).
In the fight to improve men’s mental health, myself and other academics at Halmstad University are participating in Movember this year. We aim to raise both awareness and funds to support mental health initiatives for men, and I invite anyone interested to join us. Together, we can take a step toward bringing about change and make a difference.
For those interested in understanding this area further, I recommend the book "Masculinities and Mental Health in Young Men: From Echo Chambers to Evidence", edited by Dr. Zac Seidler. An excellent evidence based resource, which avoids the "view of young men as problematic and at-risk of doing and experiencing harm" and instead promotes "reaching young men where they are."
